so the question was posed: How will I know that I am getting healthier if I have no weigh-ins on a scale, no size labels in my clothing, no charts to monitor my BMI? How will I feel happiness if I can't boast of reaching that # on the scale-chart-size? Some signs are tangible: my clothes will feel loose, my muscles will start to show, my face will have a healthy glow, I will be more flexible. I will have more energy. Things that were physically hard-like taking the stairs-will become easier. But it's the intangible changes that will mean the most to me. I will have less anxiety or tension. I will feel mentally sharper. I will hold onto positive thinking. I will have confidence and uplifted self-esteem. I will look forward to my day with a sense of anticipation and determination. I already have experienced these things from the small progress I have made. Instead of obsessing over charts and scales and jean size, I am ready to make these often ignored signs of progress my new markers of happiness. Not needing a # to validate my journey, now that's something to be happy about!
