Wednesday I went to a job fair and lectureship about the Not-for-Profit sector. I wore heels that were too high and I got some pretty amazing blisters on my feet. My pants were a bit loose which was kind of exciting.
I am definitely interested in working in the Not-for-Profit sector, so some of the lectures were interesting and helpful, but I’m really specifically interested in certain types of Not-for-Profit organizations. That is, environmental sustainability, human rights, and peacekeeping/reconciliation (as well as higher education & the arts). This job fair and lectureship were very much focused on Human Services and they were mostly looking for frontline workers (which isn’t a very good fit for me). I dropped off a couple of resumés and picked up a bunch of info about the organizations.
The good news is, it reinforced some of the directions that I had been thinking I wanted to follow. The bad news is that job fairs and most aspects of the job search process make me feel social anxiety and this one didn’t give me much hope that that was going to improve. It also reinforced my suspicion that most of the vacancies out there aren’t in the areas I’m looking for... But it’s okay. I have a few more resources now and I’ll just keep at it...
In the mean time I’m also looking forward to taking advantage of being at home to write and read a ton. Oh and exercise and build healthy habits!
