looong 2 weeks, and a 'kitty' miracle.

My 13 year old cat, Percy, became really sick. The vet says he got a bladder infection that got real bad real fast. He spent a weekend at the vet's having his kidneys flushed, came home on Monday (last week) and thru Mon-Thurs, just was not doing well. Was not eating or drinking and just slept in his own urine. It was awful. Each day I would take him back to the vet to get a fluid sack...but on Thursday, I just knew it was time to let him go. I made the appt for I could have me last morning with him.

I cried, I prayed to God for a "hail Mary play'. Then, @ 2 pm, I took Percy outside to enjoy the sun on his last day on earth...and the oddest thing happened...he perked up, he explored, when I took him back inside he ate. He was still in this 'state' when I took him to the vet. The vet said I could still put him down...I told her I can't, I can't give up on him. Sooooo, a few shots, more meds and I brought him home...and he has been doing well. He is eating, he is drinking and though he misses his box, he is trying to use it. AND this morning I even caught him 'playing' with one of his fuzzy balls. Now, on Weds morning I noticed he was 'straining' again...took him back to the vet...and decided to keep him on his anti inflammatory meds (we were trying to wean him off). He hates his meds, he will spit them out and it is difficult...but it also means he is stronger, so I'm not complaining.

I know this could be a temporary reprieve, unless his litter box habits come back to completely normal, he is not out of the woods yet. But I intend to enjoy every day I get with him.

I had a recent scare with my cat too, She is a rescued feral cat and won't let anyone but me near her. She hisses and slaps at all including the vet. He had to put her under just to examine her and for each subsequent treatment. Thank goodness she recovered, it was a hard couple of weeks. I hope you Kitty gets better soon.
