Often the best things in life or on our kitchen table are the simplest ones, and this buttery cabbage recipe falls into that category. The smoky bacon and nutritious cabbage are a match that proves this time and time again.
What You'll Need:
1/4 pound bacon
1 medium head cabbage, coarsely chopped
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup frozen peas
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
What To Do:
In a large pot, cook bacon over medium-high heat until crisp. Remove bacon from pot; let cool, then crumble and set aside.
Add remaining ingredients to the pot. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook 20 to 25 minutes, or until cabbage is tender, stirring frequently.
Sprinkle with crumbled bacon, toss, and serve.
TO MAKE IT HEALTHIER YOU CAN DISCARD THE BACON GREASE, AND USE OLIVE OIL IN PLACE OF BUTTER....OR USE A VERY LEAN HAM....
