What is the difference between a meteoroid, a meteor, and a meteorite?
A meteoroid is a small piece of cosmic debris in outer space. It becomes a meteor (aka shooting star) when it begins burning up upon entering the earth’s atmosphere. Any part of it that survives and crashes on the earth’s surface is a meteorite.
