thursday--what a week!

Thursday, October 03, 2013

hi everyone--hope your weeks are all going well. we have been sort of crazy here--Monday the garage contractors showed up (they didn't make it here until after 5 pm and we had been waiting all day--wasn't really a bad thing--but it was a long wait). they dropped their bobcat and trailer off. Tuesday right on time (about 8:15 am) they arrived and began prepping the site. our yard is very sloped, so the prep work was really quite involved--when all was said and done they had brought in eight loads of fill to make it all level. the back side of our garage is well off the ground--we will have some work to do to integrate it into the landscape. but by the end of a long day, the site was ready, the forms were in and they all headed home. Wednesday they were back about 8 am and by 9 the first concrete truck was in the driveway. the rest of the day they were pouring and finishing the concrete. they finished it all about 4:30. it looks wonderful and it will be so nice to have a garage close to our house! it will be several weeks before the build crew comes and does the rest, but hopefully by the end of oct. we will have a garage! it was just a couple really intense days--but I managed to get my runs in, the dogs walked, plants dug (until I hit a hornet's nest) and trimmed, robs birthday cake baked, pumpkin compote made, and lot of other small jobs. I had to park my car on the highway so there was plenty of room for the crew, and going outside meant I had to use a different door and wind my way through the yard to get anywhere. we have a lot of fill dirt to contend with and figure out--but so far all is good. I really wish I had a pair of roller skates--cause I would be out there zipping around on that lovely smooth foundation pour!
