Can do better

Thursday, October 03, 2013

At the beginning of last month I decided to start my spring ST with planking. I'd never done a plank before. My first lasted 35 seconds and my second 65 seconds. My longest was 130 seconds and there were a few in the 80, 105, 110 range. Some of those short planks were jolly hard to maintain. The idea was to see how long I could plank for on Sept 30. But it didn't quite work out that way. What happened?
The last time I planked was 21 Sept 105 seconds. I started on 26th and just couldn't. I got sick and though I am exercising again, am still not quite recovered. But... Planking is hardly a danger to my health. And in the following days??? I did try and couldn't manage it when I was very sick And then, when I improved... I kinda forgot about it and once distracted it came into my mind a few times, then floated away
Really, I could have planked on 30 September if I had thought of it. I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't keep up with the challenge. I lost focus and commitment. It was a fun challenge, no real pressure, but I wanted to do it, and I didn't expect to fizzle out like that.
The other exercise has been interrupted lately, too. Ive been ill, then away. That disrupts my exercise/eating routines. Plus I have been eating ... i was going to say freely, but that's not right; there has been something a little askew with the eating. Not sure what was going on there but no matter, I'm back on plan now.
Back to swimming, Zumba, and I am going to persist with ramping up into some strength training, it was on my list for the year and, good grief, the year is careering along to the end. I want to look back on a bunch of achievements so I can say I really rocked 2013, it was the year I got rid of most of my excess weight and got a handle on eating the way I want to.
(Actually, I can already say that ) emoticon
But I can do better. So I will.
Have a great weekend coming up, Sparkies

So do your plank thing today and call it a win. Dates and deadlines are, for the most part, arbitrary.

Geez, don't sweat it, Fifi! Too hard to do any planking while you're sick and it's not the end of the world that you didn't do any on the last day of the month. Don't be disappointed, as there are 12 months in every year and you've got plenty ahead of you! emoticon

Fifi, You have done so well. and it is great to celebrate the successes of 2013 too not just to focus on what hasn't been accomplished. I hope you are feeling much better. Yes planking is surely an interesting and deceptive exercise. But you will get back into it as you feel better and find your groove again. Congrats about what has already been achieved in 2013 and at the end of the year we will be able to celebrate together even more success!!! emoticon

You are doing AWESOME! The thing to remember is you are HERE and keeping your goals in mind and working toward them. Some days we are not "on", but the big picture shows we are being very consistent. I felt guilty not going to spin class tonight, but I am pooped. It was a fasting day, i had a 14 hour work day yesterday ( road trip with 50 teenagers), and I am just tired. So, I had my dinner, and am going to go to bed early. And look forward to my run tomorrow before doing Meals on Wheels delivery and then work. It's all good...and so are YOU!

There are no Plank Police! It's your challenge, your rules. You could go for a Halloween plank goal! emoticon emoticon

luckily its never too late to start over! don't give up on yourself. you accomplished so much, don't let your minor setback ruin all that progress.

i'm doing a 1000 burpees in October challenge, my friend started it on facebook. Even though nobody is keeping tabs on me I faithfully do 30/day. I HATE burpees, but they are already getting much easier.
