New plan using old information

Wednesday, October 02, 2013

I am not quite sure what is different about today. For whatever reason information that I have known for quite some time, clicked for me today. Basic Metabolic Rate is nothing new to me, I have been on spark long enough to have read, discussed and dissected this information over and over, however up until today they were just words and numbers and I never really took them for what they could be, awesome motivators! Now I know your all thinking well duh Erica that’s kind of how they figure all your ranges in your trackers all you have to do is put your info in and it tells you where you’re at. Yes I understand this, maybe it’s the format that they present it in, maybe I’m just a little slow but for whatever reason the trackers just aren’t doing it for me I can’t focus day by day I need big picture.

So today I did the math and got my maintenance calorie number. This number is nothing new to me, when I look at my nutrition tracker it is the high end of my calorie range so again no new information. I know that it takes 3500 calories to lose or gain a pound so logically I know that I need to cut out or burn that many calories from my maintenance number in a week to lose a lb…again duh. Now for my light bulb moment…wait for it…..I need balance my calorie balance like my bank balance….holy cow am I slow. How many times have I heard this advice how many times have I read those exact words?!?! Ok ok enough beating myself up, yada yada upset at time wasted not using common sense, getting over it. And to put my not so brilliant revelation into action I have got a blank check register and am putting in my calories taken in and out like deposits and withdrawals. I took my maintenance number x 7 days in a week – 3500 and that’s my goal balance I am aiming for this week. Wish me luck :)

Ok... I am really interested in this and I don't think you're slow at all. I was the know-it-all smarty pants in high school and I haven't had this lightbulb moment. Actually, if you could back up and explain that second paragraph? The calorie range stuff and the connection with the nutrition tracker. I'm not sure about any of that. I was thinking I was pretty technical but most of this was way over my head. Help!

Yes much easier to get discouraged when your going day by day but if you think ok I have 7000 calories for the week, or however many you get, its much easier to say ok I went over today but I'll just adjust tomorrow and I can still hit my goal.

Omg. Now I get it. I always focus on it day by day, but week by week makes sense too, doesn't it?! Thanks for sharing!
