Went out to dinner at a fancy place last night

Wednesday, October 02, 2013

Tommy Jr. took us out to dinner last night to thank us and celebrate the new beginning of his company. DH and I loaned his company money so that he could get rid of a "partner" that has been a negative draw on the company. So we were celebrating the "rebirth" of his company which without this guy should be able to move forward and do well. Of course his new girlfriend was there and they are simply so cute together. Fun to see how attentive they are with each other. I truly hope this is it as they are good together.

It's funny though we went to a place called Daniels down along the water in Seattle. It's one of those really fancy places where you order your steak and then everything else is extra. I ordered the smallest one which was 8oz. Then we all ordered mushrooms, green beans, and asparagus. I didn't have the bread or baked potato to stick with my no gluten and no night shades. I couldn't believe how expensive fancy places in the states are ..... I mean my steak alone was $49 which is what we spend for a total meal at our favorite steak place in Ajijic Mexico. And that is for two people! Yikes. But it was lovely and the meal was good. Still not as good as the steak place in Ajijic but okay. I think we are so spoiled living in Ajijic with so many things. But it was a lovely evening and the damage weight wise wasn't too bad for me. I am holding my own at 107.

Tonight we go out to eat again with the dear friends who's son's wedding we go to this week end. That is the reason why we came here.

The weather is crazy. Today started in the 40's. Thank goodness we bought Tommy a new insert fireplace that knocks down the cold. It is awesome and I am nice and cozy.

Yesterday, I helped my DH install a new microwave above Tommy's stove. It was a difficult installation that required my DH to reroute electrical outlets and such. He is so talented that way and does such a good job. We got it done and it looks and works great. Tommy was thrilled. Both sons are lucky as their Dad is so handy and can do so much for them.

Hope everyone is doing well. Hope it is warmer where you all are.
Make it a great day.

Steak is something I would never eat, but glad you could enjoy yours! That is an outrageous price for one though!! All things are cheaper in Mexico by far, even in the touristy areas. My sister enjoyed her trips down there. A lot of Canadians go down there to get cheap medical care sooner rather than deal with our long waiting lists for surgery.
Your husband reminds me of my step dad. He does everything around the house that needs fixing up. His background is mechanics so he can understand what is going wrong with a car and can spot one that has been 'refurbished' after being in an accident, a valuable skill when looking for a used vehicle. He fixed my elliptical when it broke apart and jury rigged a stable platform to make my recliner higher so I could safely get in and out after my hip replacement surgery. Yes it is wonderful! Now I have a nephew who is a journeyman electrician so wiring help is around the corner should it ever be needed.
Keep up the great work!

Food costs sooo much more up north! We are happy to be back in Mexico and being able to have good food for a few pesos. It is starting to cool down a little and soon we should have better veggies at the market.

8 oz is the smallest; yikes!

Wonderful to know you are still enjoying such an activity-loaded fun visit! So diverse in activities, and so many different people you're getting to see! Fantastic.

Sounds like a nice night out. We have a place here in Portland (El Gaucho) that is my fav for beef. Small chain that started in Seattle. Many years ago I wen't to a place called Rovers, referred by staff at the Sorrento Hotel. It was an amazing dinner.

The weather might be a bit better tomorrow, keeping my fingers crossed

Glad you had a nice dinner out! Sounds like you are sticking to your good eating habits as always ; )

You are so right about how cold it has been lately! Record rains... Just not vacation type weather at all! Stay warm Sallie! I am still fighting off a cold along with almost everyone in the house : (

i agree with you about the price on steaks We have a number of regular steakhouses here and a number of chains They just do not make a good steak. We have two like you went to, but just too expensive. Huby can make the bst steak so we purchase when on sale and he grills them. Enjoy dinner with your friends

Thank you for sharing! Glad you are enjoying your trip. My husband and I love steaks from great steakhouses and here in the northeast $40 - 60 is the price for an 8 oz steak or more. Usually not something we do very often , but when we do, we truly enjoy it. Going out to Keene's steakhouse in Manhattan on Friday night so you have wet my appetite. emoticon
