Funny Ha-Ha

Wednesday, October 02, 2013

I went to a childhood obesity conference earlier this week. The food served was healthy bordering on bland: LOTS of chicken and fish without any sauces or oil. The coffee stations only had skim milk -- no creamer! emoticon

My co-worker saw a gluten-free snack bar and gave it to me during the break right after lunch. I was talking to another colleague and we all agreed that even though we had just eaten lunch, we were all still so hungry! I ripped open that snack bar and ate it quickly. We all had a good laugh -- the childhood obesity conference wasn't feeding us enough! emoticon

emoticon I agree that it was Funny AND Sad. Plus, it perpetuates the Myth that you have to be Bored and / or Starving to eat "Healthy"

Sounds like they need cooking classes. Healthy does not need to be bland, and where were the veggie trays and salads?

I always need a little spice in my life. Cinnamon is my favorite.

It is funny, but it's sad, too.

There is no justification at all for healthy food to be bland, and serving it that way just makes it so much harder for folks to *want* to eat healthy. Besides that, there is definitely a lot of room to play with servings, between "not enough" and "too much". Sounds to me like the folks who put the meeting on, and their caterers, desperately need some lessons in healthy eating that folks look forward to!
