Lack of exercise

Wednesday, October 02, 2013

I've fallen into the trap of not walking or doing any exercise these last few days. I use the excuse of painting and cleaning up as my exercise and it's not cutting it. This month of October I will emphasize getting in at least 15 mins a day of some form of exercise between walking, aerobic or strength training videos, biking, or trying zumba (seems difficult).

Later this same day - - -
I walked (to doctor's).
14 mins to arrive - stopped at bench once.
then 12 minutes return trip without stopping ( but stopped without sitting twice to go up the hill in the park)
It was slow going and legs are weak, but I'm satisfied as I went 12 mins w/o stopping!

Hi, painting is a fairly demanding activity, I think it would be right to count the time painting as part of your exercise minutes.

Also, walking the amount you have, when it isn't easy, is a real achievement. I'd suggest walking regularly, building up the minutes, and adding in only one additional form of exercise at a time so that you can build up the time spent on it, and expertise. Adding just one or two others puts less pressure on yourself, and you are more likely to succeed if you narrow your goals for now - a good bit of advice I once had was 'set yourself up to succeed'.

I'm certainly not an expert, but I hope these ideas help!

Sometimes when life is busy I guess you could count ordinary activities as exercise.

If you can't do anything else - settle for walking. So good, and it gives 'time out' to think too.
