Growing up, my family was poor and didn't have health insurance. My brother and I were fed TV dinners, sugary cereals, and were allowed to drink soda ("pop" where I come from) in front of the TV. We watched a LOT of television. We had unhealthy parents. According to the statistics, all of these things are strikes against becoming a healthy adult!
Good thing people aren't statistics.
I took a walk after work today and was feeling grateful for my life. Grateful that it was a nice day. Grateful that after 67 years, my mom has decided to get healthy. Grateful that my dad has been sober for a good 6 years now. Grateful that people are people, and statistics are statistics. As a wise woman once said, demography is not destiny.
