I did something great for me and my community today. October is breast cancer awareness month.
I signed up for a 5K walk through the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research and awareness
My husbands work is hosting a team Old Castle Building Envelope Crusaders! They initially wanted me to bake goodies for their bake sale (might be a bad thing for me). I agreed to bake some goodies and was working on my plans of delicious light recipes and to not do any bites licks and tastes! But to be honest I would have to. I would have to know how good my baked items were, I mean really would you not try it and send something bad based on the opinion of your spouse or kids not me I know they would lie just to make me happy i'm not saying i'm a bad baker (which I'm not my DH's office always begs me to bake for them especially around the holidays they love what I make).
The bake sale got canceled due to corporate "Red Tape" the corporate office said it was unfair to request money from the employees and no asking for a donation for this cause either what a bunch of unhappy and in considerate people.
So I did the next best thing my family (Husband, 2 sons, MIL, FIL ) and I signed up for their upcoming 5k walk on October 26, 2013 in San Jose CA. I've never participated in a walk before and think this will be fun I mean I walk 5+ miles every day so I know I won't have any issues completing the walk it's the principal of the walk and what it can do for others. I even talked my mother in law to walk (she is a breast cancer survivor of a few months now). This is an important cause to me as a person but also because as I said, I just spent the last year watching, worrying and supporting my mother in law. Who just happened to go in for her routine mammogram and was diagnosed at an early stage so it is VERY IMPORTANT to do your monthly at home screenings and your yearly mammograms and NO MEN are not discriminated against this disease!!
My family is very thankful to the American Cancer Society without their many programs they offer and provided to my mother in law she would not be cancer free today. I am attaching a link to my personal Making strides webpage through the American Cancer Society for donations to support their programs and to support me and my family's upcoming walk.
Please don't feel obligated to donate I put the link out there in case you felt like you could donate. (if you donate A BIG THANK YOU!)
Have a great day and don't forget to wear PINK this month in support of the fight against breast cancer.
