So this is how it all went. What is a Pro-time clinic?

Monday, September 30, 2013

My last blog was about all 4 appointments I had on one morning. I ended up having to go to the lab for a bunch of test that my Rhumy wanted. I asked the lab to notified the Pro-Time clinic that I would have a pro-time done with my blood draws.
For those who want to know (Jaxmommy) what a pro-time clinic is. Pro-times are done on those of us lucky enough (sarcasm here) to be on blood thinners like Warfarin/Coumadine to adjust ones medication. If you are too thin, you could bleed out and if you are too thick, you could have a blood clot. Is life just ducky! They have been trying to get my dosages correct for the last couple of months. Once they get them correct, I hope to only have to go once a month. It has been more like every 10 days.
So I was sure that all was well with the ultrasound on my thyroid because I didn't hear from the doctor until the next week on Wed. I was hoping for a letter in the mail, all is well, a short call from one of the nurses, all is well. Nope I hear the doctors voice, all is not so well. My DH Jeff didn't get that for many years. Mail or Nurse notification things are good. Doctor call not so great. lol Really everything is gonna be OK. I do have 2 small somethings about 7 mm each. She referred me to a specialist Endocrinologist. I figured I would hear from them in a few days, nope the next day. I guessed they wouldn't be able to see me for a couple of months, nope. Endo originally wanted the 11th of Oct. but I had another doctors appointment and didn't want to wait around for 3 hours. So I see the Endo on the 15th of Oct. I am pretty sure all will be find. Even if it is something, this is a pretty easy problem to take care of.
So this may or may not explain my lack of energy and motivation. This may or may not be anything to worry about and could be normal for a woman my age. That is what my new family practice doctor said anyway. I do really like her and hope to be a patient of hers for many years to come.
Ok that is all for now. Will make another blog possibly tomorrow to tell you all about free museum day at the Gene Autry museum up in LA. that I attended on the 28th. Keep your eyes peeled for that one.

Thanks! OK, well, both my in-laws are on blood thinners and always go for their PT tests to measure the thickness of their blood, so duh! Had no idea PT was pro-time! They just go to their heart doctor. Any news on the thyroid yet? My mom had some nodes on hers, but they ended up being nothing. My grandfather just adored Gene Autry! I have his copy of the Christmas album! Thanks again for answering my question!

Wow! Hope your right that these two small things are easily taken care of!! I guess I can't whine about the weekly painful Humira injections I get :P I have had to get needles all my life since I was 6.5 years old -sometimes I feel like going on a needle strike!!
Happy to hear the shut down government has not affected your health care!
Look forward to your visit of the museum!

I know the protime clinic well. As a nurse supervisor, our dept. added the inpatients protime and Coumadin adjustments to our work load. I also know what a major bleed can do as I was laid up for 2 months on a recliner with a leg 4X the size of the other!! Interesting lifestyle we live!! Took 6 months for my protime/INR to settle back after being on it for 15 yrs. at the same dose! Must be the weight loss that goofed it up.
Take care and keep us up on what's happening.
