Weekend, just Weekend! (and 30k recap)

Sunday, September 29, 2013

My intention for this weekend was to remain simple and relax.

I started my Saturday (after not much sleep, again...) with my long run. I am following the Hal Higdon marathon training plan, with some minor adjustments - so it would fit my travelling (temporary duty) schedule too!

I just finished week 13 / 3 more weeks of training and Niagara International Marathon is at the end of Week 17!

My last long run (beside the race) was a 25k. I learned that if I want to keep running after 21.1k/13.1 miles, I need some fuel - food and water. I usually run a HM non stop so I need to adjust.

As my training plan indicated, I did 30km/ 18 (actually 18.6!) Miles. It consisted of 2 loops.
Loop 1 : 16 km/ 10 miles. Average of 5:06 per Km or 8:12 per mile.
I stopped after loop 1 (back home!) for a quick bathroom break, a bottle of water (see I run without a belt and I have no water supply during my route!) and a bar.

I tried an energy protein fudge powerbar... because it might be convenient during the race. It taste good and did not make my stomach feel too bad. I am not a big fan of the power gel - except for the CLIF Chocolate and Vanilla flavor - it is like having pudding on the go, what a treat!

On my way for loop 2... Same route but cut 2k (1 mile) shorter! This route is not so flat.... (there is an elevation gain of 360 meters and a loss of 165m)... a couple of the hills are quite challenging too... I finished strong - keeping a steady pace all the way!

My look at the end!

I was happy to fill the square on my training plan too...
I keep a printed copy and I write on it what I do - I also keep a training log!

I even went for a 4k walk at the lake with Jeff (DH) later in the afternoon.

Surprisingly, I was not hungry at all after that, even if I burned more than 1000 Cal! My treat was an soft ice cream cone afternoon snack and my typical glass of red wine with a bowl of dry roasted peanuts in shell (whenever DH and I go for a drink at our local pub). I busted my cal range (1550) by 100 but it is not adjusted to my activities... I don't think I have to worry there!

Today was rest day. I think it is well deserve after 30k.

I started with a short walk with my DH. I am a bit still but After that, I made a breakfast/lunch.
My Panini was delicious (roasted pepper, watermelon rind Cajun relish - homemade!!!, and light mozzarella).

I decided that I would not be working this afternoon. I have a lot of work to catch up, but I really need a break... and it does not match with "Simple and Relax!"

Instead, I did spend some quiet time with my daughter at the farmer market.

We picked strawberries and blueberries... and grabbed a few decorative corn too...

Jeff made dinner : a roast with veggies (carrots and potatoes) and Maggie prepared Chocolate Strawberry Cupcakes.

Nice! With a fresh strawberry inside!
