Rest

In a world where we are pushed to get things done right now regardless of what is already on our plates, it is good to stop and say let me rest. For a body heals and replenishes itself while it is at rest.

So, why do we often feel like resting is one thing we don't have time for. Next to exercise, it is one of the most important things our bodies need.

I'm being forced to rest this weekend. I came down with strep and feel horrible. Sure the antibiotics are working now and I don't feel like I am trying to swallow nails anymore...more like tacks at the moment. But while I'm sick, I've been doing a lot of reflection.

I just came off a period of working long days two weeks straight away from home. It took it's toll on me and now I'm in bed recouping from it. Life is not worth stressing one's self out over it. Meditation is important, whether it comes in the form of prayer or another. I choose prayer and I'm finding that with it comes a peace.

Peace. Hm. In a world where turmoil seems to surround us, peace almost seems impossible to achieve. But it is. We can't function in full turmoil 24 hours a day. Turn off the television, turn on some relaxing music and focus on your breathing. Let the worries of the world melt off you. Just relax. Focus on a happy moment. Smile. Laugh. Enjoy.

Love. If you are single like me, you lack the feel of the human touch....but did you know that stroking a pet can have pretty much the same effect? I have two dogs, and I just feel the stress drip off me as I sit down and cuddle with them for a few minutes.

Stretch. Something about reaching for your toes, stretching out those arms and back just seems to release the tensions of the day. It isn't just good for keeping muscles from tightening or preventing injury, it helps us destress, too.

So, take a moment to rest, find peace, love and stretch today.

    Great reminders Brenda...you do so much you certainly need to take care of yourself in the interim. I relax with yoga and classical music...it feeds the soul.

    Rest is so important and it is often the first thing to go when we get stressed. Either because we stay up later or get up earlier to finish things that need to be done, or simply because we are too stressed to rest well. That lack of sleep invites illness. It's a vicious cycle. I hope that your weekend of forced rest puts you back on the path to health.

    I am enjoying one right now, scented with lavender and rose, as both my reward for doing quite a bit more fitness today than expected and also to help recuperate from the physical stresses of that exercise. While being watched by my cats, who are concerned for my mental health, what with my voluntarily being in the water and all, lol.
