NSV A Whole New World Opens Up.. and it's going to get expensive!

Saturday, September 28, 2013

I am now solidly in a regular size 14.. so much so that I can't even wear my 16s anymore cuz they just hang.. so, today I go to Dillards (a department store ala Macy's).. usually, I go to the "Women's Department" and in my local Dillards it's stuck way in the back corner of the place next to the dishes and towels.. LOL nice.

Today, I could shop anywhere I wanted and practically danced through the door. Three minutes later I was completely overwhelmed - I could shop ANYWHERE in the store?? I didn't even know where to start! I clearly should have planned for more time but when you're used to going to the same 30x50 space and know the rounders by heart (okay a slight exaggeration) - a shopping event takes about 15 minutes.

I roamed around and let the feelings settle.. then picked out a few things to try on.. but my response what not what I expected.. I thought I would be overjoyed.. and don't get me wrong, I was excited to have so many choices.. I just wasn't *comfortable* with it, ya know? I wasn't comfortable with the number of choices.. the space.. the sizes of clothes.. and the overwhelming number of CUTE THINGS!! LOL Yep, I warmed up... and I left with two new outfits that I adore!

I'm just glad I didn't venture into the actual MALL.. that's got to be advanced shopping and I think I'll stick to one store at a time... for now...

Congratulations! That is a GREAT feeling, I'm sure! The closest I've gotten is the plus size 18's... can't wait to get to where you are! Oh, and BTW it doesn't have to get could get much cheaper. I think one of the great things about wearing smaller clothes is that you can find better deals. When I shopped ONLY at LB (back when I was a 28) I bought what they had because I knew that was one of my only options. When you're smaller, you can find more clearance rack sales in your size! Silver lining!

And I'm stealing your pic :)

but what a great problem to have! although expensive! just get what you really need right away then stop. go to a different store another time and get just what you need right now. this will make it easier.
on that same note, went through all my fall/winter clothes 2 weeks ago. what an eye-opener! size 3x does. not. fit. at all. size 2x does. not. fit. at all. size 1x is so-so, but some of the smaller ones fit. went shopping with my BFF and got only what I really needed - 1 t-shirt, 1 cardigan (seem to be cold a lot more), 1 skirt (hey, only $10!) and a nice pair of dress black pants for work. 2 stores, 1 hour, done and done! next week is shoe shopping - who knew that feet shrink - like was 8 1/2 now 8! 2 pair of shoes and that's it. I still have 60 pounds to lose, so not much bought yet. that comes later and will be expensive, too!

I think at some point I'll require a visit from Stacey and Clinton to teach me how to do this. Even thin my body shape dictates that I should probably make good friends with a tailor!

We don't have a Dillards were I live, but there was one that I would go to when I went out to Arizona to visit my parents. It is a very nice store and I always managed to find lots of things I liked. We have a Macy's that is about 45 miles from me - thank goodness. I love to shop so I can just imagine what fun you had! Just think - when you venture out into the Mall I bet you will breeze from one end to the other and not even be short of breath or miss a step!

BTW - what's happening with that lump on your leg? and your heel?

Good on you! Enjoy the feeling....and pace yourself...the way you're going you'll be wearing size 8s in no time!

Me, I hate shopping period! Once I find something I like, I'll by 3 or for pairs in different colors etc. SWMBO spruces me up with Hawaiian shirts for XMAS & birthdays just to get some color in my wardrobe.

Ride the wave!

When I got to goal my first time, I had exactly the same feelings you are describing. For sometime I still walked right to the Plus Size section of the store. Since I have been overweight all my life, it was really a strange feeling to be able to purchase something in a size 12. Now working on getting back to that stage.
Great job on the two new outfits.

You must prepare yourself for the rest of the mall! LOL, it's a whole new world. When I lived in the states there was a store called New York & Company that had nice clothes, I don't know if it still exists, but it's worth trying.
Enjoy your new freedom!

You are speaking my language! I have been buying at Old Navy. In the STORE, not just online where you have to go for the fat clothes. Whoo Hoo

Now is the time for you to check out the fashion magazines or on line sites to discover what you like so that you can narrow down your choices. But, have fun with it.
