New Saturday routine

Saturday, September 28, 2013

For the next month I will be helping my mom out around the house. She obviously has not been able to clean as well as she normally does for a long time now. I found more dust than I normally have seen in the past at her home today. I ended up wet and dusty by the time I was done, but her home is much cleaner than it started out today.

I guess getting old is not fun, so I'm glad I can be there to help her out as she needs it. Hopefully her eyes will be working well enough for her to continue her housework as well as she'd like, but she's been complaining for years about the vacuuming and I plied up a layer of dust from the tops of places that haven't been touched in over a year.

I'm not sure why, but it's easier for me to clean other people's homes than my own. Perhaps it's because I don't have to live there and see it every day. My own dirt is piling up and perhaps I'll be able to stay cleaner now that I'm near the normal it was about a year ago. It's just depressing to see so much clutter around the house and don't want to get it done.

It was a little harder to do some parts of mom's house because of my knee today, but I took it slow and did my best anyhow. I don't want her house to have had a sub-par cleaning just because I'm aching a little bit. I have all day tomorrow to rest and have a Mythbusters marathon (the new episodes finally showed up on Netflix!).

So now that I'm dusty and wet, I can feel like she had a good cleaning and can live in a dust-free home. Perhaps tomorrow I'll take care of some of my floor.

Today's Holidays: Love Note Day, Good Neighbor Day, Confucius Day, Drink Beer Day and National Strawberry Cream Pie Day.

I'm sure your mom appreciates what you've done for her. My mom's house was always so clean (as I was growing up), we use to say that you could do major surgery in any room of her house and not have to worry about getting any type of infection. emoticon She's 82 now and can't live alone anymore because of her health, BUT, her room at the nursing home is always spotless (yes, even her closet). emoticon

You really are a kind and thoughtful person. I'm sure your Mum really appreciates the help.
My own mother is growing quite more infirm each year, mainly due to really bad arthritis. Her movement is gradually becoming more limited. She is a proud lady who has always kept a really clean house and, even now, she is not quite prepared to admit that she needs help. My step-father is a saint!
Old age comes to us all and we can but hope that we are gracious to accept help that is offered rather than pretending that we can still cope like we used to.

I'm sure you mother appreciates all the cleaning you did today, and will for the duration you need to help her. Once her eyes are feeling better, and she can see better, and is given the ok by Dr.she will be able to continue with the cleaning. Getting older has its drawbacks and having eye problems can get in the way of not always seeing what needs to be done.

The good news is next week will just be a maintenance week rather then a deep cleaning week. I always keep mine company clean except for a couple hot spots. My desk and the closets and the garage are my down fall but hopefully will be getting to them soon.

    You are a good daughter.

It is far easier for me to clean others homes - my actual business - then my own for sure. I'm vowing to do something about that this year.
