Today I ran in the Neptune Festival 8k. It was a local race, so the crowd of runners was no where near what it was for the Rock 'n Roll Half on the 1st. It was run by a local running club. It was a good route, flat and fast.
I don't run in road races to win, it's never going to happen. I do run in them to compete against myself and to be a part of the local running community. Every person I see out there, my thought is..."I want to be like you!" I think this when I see the elite runners going in, I think this when I see the people in the back, who keep going. I think this when I pass the senior out running and the senior speed walking. I think this when I see the really heavy runner kicking my butt! I think this of just about everyone who gets out of bed early on a Saturday to line up and run with other runners.
"I want to be like you!" I want to be doing this no matter what anyone else thinks of me (and my jiggling butt and thighs). I want to be doing this 20 years from now, when I'm the senior running or speed walking the race.
"I want to be like you!"
