The shoes are off, I'm enjoying a cold seltzer and some of the bread I baked last night. I'm probably going to have bread and cheese for dinner tonight, and that's just fine. I'm too tired to feel much like doing anything more complicated.
Tonight I'm doing NOTHING. Tomorrow and Sunday I'm going to get this place cleaned up. It's just too depressing having it like this. Since I've got some beautiful things (my dishes and my stand mixer) I want to put them in the best setting. Besides, it's hard to cook when you can't find your countertops.
Tomorrow I want to make a pot of my favorite soup. It's got Italian sausage, butternut squash, hominy, and a bunch of other stuff. The hominy gives the broth a strong corn flavor that's just lovely. A bowl of this steaming soup with a piece of homemade bread -- it doesn't get much better than that.
(Yes, that's the actual soup with one of my homemade rolls.)
You know, several people have asked me how I can watch so many food shows. They've said there can't possibly be that much about cooking. I love everything about food and cooking (except maybe washing the dishes). My love of cooking shows is 125% about the food and nothing else.
