Some Run Groups Really Rock!

Friday, September 27, 2013

I posted this on my primary teams this morning so I apologize to those of you who have already read it.
I just felt like sharing with anyone thinking about joining a run group or even starting one!

Had a fun time at Run Club last night. We were asked to estimate our run time then advised to try to hold pace to finish at that projected time and not go over.

Poised and ready at the Starting Line, Dunedin Running Club!

Crossing the finish line, I was within 1 minute of my "guess!" I went to get a towel from my car, change shirts, then hit the deck at Olde Bay Cafe to watch the sunset, have a little Sangria, and discuss our future runs & Tris. Our Run Group leaders surprised us and announced the "winners" of the Guess Your Pace contest. (Didn't know we were scoring swag!)

I came in 3rd and got a goodie bag with a shirt, Detour Bars, EmergenC, Nutrilife Products, and even a cold Heineken! I also got serious discounts to 3 future races in the next 3 months!

We hung out for a while, then went to our local Dunedin Brewery for a late night snack. I love the fact that we can just go anywhere in our run gear! We also caught this great band from Burlington, North Carolina! It's incredible that we get the best bands here. I had fun talking to them as I went to school at NCSU forever ago! One of the guitarists came from the DC area too! (Silver Springs, MD) Yeah, our Run Group truly rocks!

We always talk about how our group might be smaller than most in the area but is so much more tighter. We're a solid support group to each other, sharing experience and knowledge! We're going to Buccaneer games now, and representin' at local races whether as a participant or volunteer. (I know at least 7 races in the next few months where most of us are entered.) We're even doing road trips! (Space Coast Marathon/Half in Cocoa Beach & Sarasota's First Watch Half Marathon & Relay) Obviously, we hang out together socially.
AND we cover the spectrum of runners from Elite to Walkers.

I'm very blessed to be a part of this special family! I encourage anyone who's thinking of joining a group to check out local groups. I hope you find one as great as mine. If you don't have one, why not start one..and have fun with it!

Thanks for reading!

Much Love...

It is great to run with a group. They can help push you to go faster and be more accountable. On the other hand, it is sometimes necessary to run alone for convenience. I love the Tampa/St Pete area. My parents used to live inHolmes Beach on Anna Maria Island and my grandparents used to live on Long Boat Key. I spent 5 years in Gainesville at UF getting my graduate degree. Do they have any races that go over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge?

It looks like you have a great group, Monty.

Cool blog Monty. It appears that you have a fantastic running group. I wish my schedule worked better to run with a group but, alas, it's not to be. At least not at this point in my life! I don't mind running alone, though, so I'll just keep with what I've been doing for now.

Margaritt brought up an excellent question. Anyone coming down to Northern Pinellas County (Clearwater, Dunedin, Palm Harbor, Tarpon Springs, N. St Pete), do not hesitate to contact me if you want to hook up with us and do a 'lil "running on the Edge!" We would love for you to join us!

Every once in a great while I am down in your neck of the woods. Mind if I contact you and maybe get to run with your group?

I love my running "peeps" too.

Running CAN be a solitary thing - but when I run with friends I run longer, faster and enjoy it much more!
