The other night, DH and I stayed at a hotel near a restaurant hosting a wine dinner so we wouldn't have to drive. The next morning, we dropped off our keys at the front desk and said we had the bill slipped under the door. The youngish desk clerk responded, "Awesome!" As we walked to the car, we pondered on abuse of the word "awesome" and wondered what adjective he would use to describe, say, the arrival of his first-born, since he had wasted "awesome" on our checkout. Just sayin'.

It is odd how we get "stuck" with phrases during certain times. Remember when "have a nice day" was used, overused and then made the butt of our jokes? I remember my parents using the word, "copasetic" which may or may not be a real word. It meant "well", as far as I can tell.

I like some of the old words like "swell," darn instead of damn, and jeepers creepers (-:
(good for October haunting!!) Thanks for the blog and getting me thinking about words today.

Good point, Celia. The wine dinner sounds great. We haven't done that in such a long time, and they are great fun. You certainly had a lovely weekend to be out in wine country! emoticon
