I would like friends to chat with about this weight issue

Hi, this is my first day and I'm not quite sure how this works. I would like to lose weight 50 lbs to start and exercise more

    I think that STEPH-KNEE gave you a lot of good advice. Another good Sparker to read about is ~INDYGIRL . Her journey to better health is an inspiration.

    One of her sayings is "Baby steps. Leaping in wears you out. Then you quit."

    I think that is an excellent philosophy.

    Hey there! I am a friend of Heather's! I added you as a friend and I hope you will add me back! I have been on and off spark people, I lost 40 pounds twice only to gain it back. This time for me was different, I have been here a year and a half and lost 80 pounds. I want to lose over 100 pounds total and I finally feel I can do it.

    My tips (which everyone is different and you have to figure out what works for you) are:
    Make changes slowly. Start with drinking more water and tracking your food. Then work on staying in your calorie range, then work on exercise. Even if exercise means walking back and forth in your living room for 5 minutes a day and building up. Get moving. :)

    My biggest thing is that this can't be a diet. I can never go back to the way I was eating 80 pounds ago unless I want to be that weight again. So whatever changes you make have to be a life time. That said don't make changes that you can't live with. For example, if you can't live life on low carbs (I can't LOL), don't lose weight that way.

    I have lost my weight counting calories. I still eat things that would make other people cringe (easy mac, chicken nuggets, etc), but I count all my calories and that is why the weight comes off. :)

    Most importantly, even if you are feeling down or hit a bump in the road, come to spark for support. It's fun to come on Spark and share all of our victories (which we want to hear btw;)) but when things get hard sometimes it's hard to ask for support and that is when we need spark the most! :D emoticon

    Well you're not alone, I sure could stand to lose 50 more. I walk, play some tennis, some group exercise. But always watching for stupid stuff that may cause an injury. Cut out ice cream, alcohol and upped the veggies and fruit. I't not been too bad, staying consistent has help a lot. Good luck
