FAST UPDATE

Thursday, September 26, 2013

So J is at the Rehab Hospital, and doing well. They are a really good facility, and will address all aspects of his recovery; physical, cognitive, and emotional. He is starting to enter into an anger phase, mad at the world, but I am seeing some of his Bipolar symptoms peeking through. I am a little concerned about that, but unless it makes him a danger to others or himself, we can't force him to take medication for it. The doctors are aware of his condition, and will adjust as needed. As his mother, I want to gather him in my arms, hold him close, and protect him from all the bad things. As an adult, I want to smack him in the head and yell at him to SUCK IT UP!

As for me... Well my food has been all over the place, as most of you probably guessed. I did buy food at the grocery store that I could fix in the toaster oven or microwave while I was staying over night at the hospital; Healthy frozen entrees (Kashi has some that are decent in price, taste, and sodium content), Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, bagels, salad mix, frozen waffles, and liquid egg substitute. I was really eating on the run, though, so I didn't take time to track.
I haven't been so good since he was transferred, so I expect the scale to go the wrong way at the end of the month. I haven't exercised at all for a week and a half. Between trying to work off the stress and the VERY uncomfortable sleeping arrangements, I strained/sprained something in my knee. I could walk, but I had Rice Crispies in my joints. (Snap, Crackle, Pop, and occasionally Crunch) So much for getting a 1500 min trophy this month. Anyway, I have a couple of beginner yoga DVDs I have been wanting to try, so now may be a good time.

Once again, I would like to extend my most heartfelt gratitude to everyone who sent prayers and well wishes our way. It really meant a lot to me, and just goes to show SP is more than a Diet site, it is a HUMAN site. Blessing to all.

I wouldn't worry too much about what the scale might do this month. You had other priorities. And rightly so! When you're dealing with something so traumatic there are limits to how much personal growth and change you can try to impose on your life at the same time. You're in a much better place NOW to gently begin taking better care of YOU.

Continuing to pray that your son's recovery goes well! Being in a health care facility that can help him in all areas is a great benefit.

Under the circumstances, I would say your food is wonderful! The yoga DVDs sound like a good idea, too - not just for exercise, but for helping with stress management. Overall, put your primary focus where it needs to be and be kind to yourself regarding the other aspects of life. You can only do what you can do, and that's OK.

Hi there - okay, number one I want to say that this is a time to be gentle with yourself... taking care of ourselves looks different at different times - this is a season of being a mom who is (rightfully) very concerned for her son. emoticon SO - - You just do your best with the food and whatever else but if the scale goes up, then so be it. This season will pass and then you can re-focus 100% and get it all back in gear!

As for the update on your son, please know he will be in my prayers, with specific focus on him getting through this without the bi-polar becoming too much of an issue and also for his anger to be minimized. Although it is all understandable, the anger can be a stumbling block, right?

We are all here to support you. Yes, you are so right - - SP is so much more than a diet site. I loved your description that it is a human site!!! emoticon emoticon
