Day 11 - Not the best start

Thursday, September 26, 2013

I skipped breakfast again this morning. I definitely need to work on that a lot harder. I also need to get myself out of the house earlier in the morning so I don't feel so rushed when I get into the office.

I'm pretty much out of anything decent to eat at work and at home other than steel cut oats. Since today is Thursday there's no sense in shopping for the rest of this week for work. Tomorrow I'm having lunch out with co-workers but there are really good healthy options at this place so I'm solid. I'm also having dinner with my friend tomorrow night so tomorrow is covered.

Saturday I think I'll get up early and head to the farmers market. It should be mid 60s maybe so it will be chilly but I love the fall. I have to remember to make a list of the spices I need because they have the best spice shop there. I hardly ever have to shop in the grocery store any more which suits me fine. I get my produce, cheese, eggs and spices from the farmers market or produce market and my meats from the butcher shop. The only things I can think of that I buy from the grocery store are plain Greek yogurt, dried beans and pasta. Occasionally I'll pick up a bag of frozen chicken breasts or a pound of ground turkey if I'm making a crockpot meal or something. Regardless it's really nice not to have to push a cart aisle by aisle any more. I actually like grocery shopping but my back is screaming by aisle three or four and I spend a lot of time leaning on the cart to give it some relief.

Saturday afternoon my daughter and I have a movie date. :) She lives in New York and I live in Missouri so we book time to sit on the phone together and watch a movie on Netflix streaming video every few weeks. It's a good way to stay connected and we miss going to movies together. I love that girl!

The rest of Saturday and most of Sunday will be dedicated to cleaning and organizing at home. I have boxes everywhere because I was packing to move but now it doesn't look like I'm moving anytime soon so I need to unpack the important stuff, store the unimportant stuff and throw away what I don't need any more. I have accumulated a lot of "throw out" stuff because my plan was to hire one of those haul away places to come and get whatever was left after I moved all the good stuff. Now I'll just throw it away myself a little at a time until I'm sufficiently lean for when I do move, maybe next year.

Sunday I think I'll make a big pot of chicken and beans for my dinners next week. I love cooking and I need to keep the variety in my diet so I don't burn out. I'm fortunate in that I could eat grilled chicken every day but I need to broaden my horizons and learn to incorporate other foods. I know I've said this before but I wish I liked fish, I can only stomach canned tuna and there are so many other great fatty fish choices if I could stomach them.

Thanks you're right that's a good idea and I've done that in the past but not in the summer. I have baked multigrain flaxseed muffins and breakfast omelet muffins and they were really good.

Now that it isn't so hot out I will start baking again. Smoothies are also an option, my sister swears by them but I always felt like they were a lot of work. I found this thing on pinterest where you take everything you are putting in the smoothie and you put them in a bag and freeze them which would eliminate my time challenge issues.

Maybe you should try preparing some breakfast foods and freeze. In the morning pop it in the microwave to warm. Look in SparkPeople recipes under breakfast for some great ideas.
