It might not look like a lot of fun, but it is to me . . . this is my second batch of apple sauce cooking down to make apple butter.
Last week I mentioned that I'm attempting to grow our own salad indoors. Well, DH got all excited about that, started asking questions . . . . and surprised me with this:
On his first day of vacation, he kinda disappeared in his shop and was out there until late. The next morning he got out there early, finished it up and called me out to see what he'd been up to. I couldn't believe it when I first saw it!
He made this plant stand from siding from his old barn. The supports and frame are small trees from our property that he cut down a couple years ago, then dried and skinned. It is very strong and very rustic looking . . . which fits right into our 'decor'!
He also installed grow lights above both shelves. So now my 'salad' has a home!!!
So far we have a variety of lettuce, chives (in the pickle jar, Karen!), swiss chard as well as several herbs . . . and the lettuce is already putting on new leaves!
We're trying to start more lettuce from seed . . . so keep your fingers crossed.
It's a place to start. . . . and I'm so excited!!!
We're planning to install some full spectrum lighting in this room so my house plants can have a happy place to hang out this winter. (The full spectrum lighting is also good to fend off the winter blahs.)
Time to go play in the dirt!!!!
