Am I Stressed? Well, DUH!!!

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

Today I was observed in my classroom by my new principal. You would think after over 20 years of experience, this would not bother me. BUT...

1. This is my evaluater's 1st year as a principal.
2. I am old enough to be his mother, and remember when he was a gangling little kid in school.
3. He has never taught in a classroom, ever.
4. He has never had to write lesson plans, give real grades, nor be accountable to state standards.
5. This is the 1st time he has done an observation.
6. He has never written an job evaluation before.
7. This observation will be my performance evaluation for my job, and could be used to make my life miserable for my remaining years before retirement.
8. This is the man that my husband formally complained to the school board about several years ago for leaving welts and bruises on our son, and breaking his glasses by hitting him with a dodge ball. Our son was 8 at the time.
9. It occurred to me that I have never been evaluated by a man before, my principal's have always been women.

Did I mention I'm feeling a bit stressed??? emoticon

I can so relate to your concern. This year I also have a new principal. I have a very challenging class and I feel I have little or no support from the principal. Like you I too am worried about how the school year will go.

Hoping your situation improves as our school life/work affects other parts of our life.

Sending you good thoughts and well wishes and prayers that he is professional. How he got such a job with out teaching is beyond me. Coming up through the trenches should be a job requirement. emoticon

Sad to hear of your principal. I remember the saying, those that can't do teach. Those that can't teach administrate. I don't think this applies to you as a teacher. But it sounds like its spot on with your new boss. Good luck. You can do it.

    Let us pray that:

Since one does not need to be an artist to appreciate and value good art.
That this man although never a teacher will be able to appreciate and value a good (or better) teacher.

Woo boy..... I hear ya loud & clear. In many ways the guy sounds like our new Transportation Dir. Can't even drive a bus, doesn't have a license, no experience as a TD in the past. On and on... This year I see the 'evaluations' have HUGELY increased at our school corp. too. We're being evaluated for everything, things we've never been evaluated for in the past, of course by a guy (our TD) who has NO CDL Class B license. Where is the logic? The common sense? Out the window. I don't blame you one bit for being stressed today. But, reason #8 is the real icing on the cake. And this guy is now your Principal. Oh my. There is no ethical excuse for his appointment. We both know that behind the doors there is an abundance of skullduggery in public edu - especially now. Much cronyism. Unless one has worked within the system for a long time, a person couldn't conceive some of the things that we witness. I'm praying for you. emoticon emoticon

#1 - how does this man enter a school building after your husband reported suh behavior?

#2 - how does one get hired as a principal w/o classroom experience? The proper title used to be "principal teacher,"

How did he get into a grad program in Administrative Education without teaching experience? I thought that was a requirement. I'm a performer so I always did better when someone was observing. That's a good quirk to have emoticon

I wouldn't worry.
I'm sure he doesn't want his rep as a child abuser to hit the water cooler
