Weight loss and stress eating

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

I can't believe I've lost 10 pounds!

I was thinking about what I've done differently. I eat smaller portions. I eat more protein. I've cut out gluten (for health reasons).

But overall, my mindset has changed. The past couple weeks have been pretty stressful, with a couple days/events being really bad. In the past, I would most likely stress eat. "Treat" myself to some ice-cream or chocolate...but end up eating way too much because of the stress monster. Well, I did stress eat a couple times last week, but it was different. Instead of reaching for ice cream, for example, I ate a giant bowl of green peppers that I had cut up earlier this week. Or I had a small apple from the farmer's market - and then I had one more.

I also noticed that in both instances I stopped myself after the bowl was done, or the second apple. It was like my mind said "Okay, this is enough." I didn't eat until I had a stomachache. This is a pretty big change for me. And a good one, because I'm looking at a solid three more months of stress! haha

Anyhow, yay 10 pounds gone!

I stress eat too and I found that rewarding myself with other things that don't revolve around food helps a lot. For example, the other day I was craving really bad and instead of buying cookies, I bought a new nail polish color, and painted my nails when I got home.

Or sometimes If I'm eye balling something I want online, I'll take out my "sweet change jar", It's a jar where I put all the money I WOULD have spent every time I almost bought sweets at the grocery store. (but since I usually use my debit card, I write down the amount on some paper and put it in the jar). If I have enough money in my sweets jar, I'll buy whatever I want online.

Hope this helps a little :)

Awesome job on losing 10 pounds by the way!
