Ounce by Ounce - Photos - Tales from 100# Down

Tuesday, September 24, 2013

I just made a photograph for BLC23 (a member-created challenge on Sparkpeople). I always take a picture each round so I can "see" my progress over the 12 week period. A friend of mine sent me a "before picture" I did not have. It kindly had my larger half (I'm a pear) cropped out but even still you can see the change. This photograph was probably around 320 (I got up past 350). I put it side by side to show the progress.

The reason I'm sharing this is to ENCOURAGE you. Somewhere out there, perhaps reading this blog, is someone that is where I began. It's NOT hopeless. It IS possible. Granted, it took time (3 years) but I'm down over 100 pounds. My goal is now on the horizon though still at a distance. I know I will make it now!

Just start! Start with your supper! Don't wait 'til tomorrow. Plan a healthy supper then close the kitchen. Add 10 minutes of fitness to that and you are on your way!

Yep, that's how I did it. I counted calories. I added exercise. I kept making small changes that added up to big ones (giving up soda, eliminating fries and chips, asking for broccoli instead of a potato, etc.). As many of you know I began by holding on to the kitchen island and walking around it for exercise. Now I have completed two official 5K's and this past week hiked 11. 1 miles in one day in Glacier National Park.

It IS possible. You can do it! Join me on the journey!

You are such an inspiration and when I think that you got going around the island in your kitchen it lets me know that after 2 major back surgeries on the 12th and 18th I too can start with the island in my kitchen. emoticon YOU RAWK emoticon

You look fabulous, I was wondering did you lose quickly at first or was it a steady loss through out the 3 yrs? I am having a hard time losing, up and down like a yo-yo! I will never give up.....You are an inspiration, gives me hope to keep trying! emoticon

Your Amazing! You're right it is 1 small step at a time. I lost 30lbs in 3 1/2 months. It's approx 2lb a week and I did it the same way. Short walks became longer and longer. Cutting back on or cutting out certain processed foods. It can be done and the feeling of taking control of your life is amazing. Well said. emoticon

I'm with you on this journey. I don't weigh (never did and don't want to) as much as you did, but my mother does. My mother's entire side is obese. I am fighting to keep it off. So you are a great inspiration to me and I am with you. I want to run 23.6 like they have on Biggest Loser. So far I can only jog half of my hollow that is only about .2 of a mile. That only means that I can run about 50 yards or so. I am not giving up though. If you can do it, I know I can.
Thanks!!!

Hey, girl! Great job on all your success. Did you lose all this weight from tracking here on Sparkpeople? Im thinking about tracking. Im debating between this and WW strictly online (no meetings). This is free so i wanted to see if this worked as well. :)

That's amazing! I don't know how many starts and stops I have had on this journey, but it's all because I didn't keep my focus.

I like the simplicity of what you did, and look at you three years later! I'm going to work at it, one decision at a time. Thanks for the suggestions.

Claude
