Trying to Find the Silver Living in Chronic Pain

My mantra today (at least in my attempt to be positive and find that silver lining is this :



I feel like it has me by the neck as my pain levels have been off the charts for days now. But I can't let it control me. I do however need to slow down. 1500 steps is my goal for today. I see my Dr. tomorrow. I pray she can help me find relief.

Saying my mantra over and over until I believe!

    I don't know you personally, but I know that saying by heart. Only my "bear to cross" isn't fibro, it's RSD. I may have RSD, but it can't have me! My mom was a wise feminist way before her day. One of her favorites was you can't be someone's doormat unless you lay down first emoticon

Have any of you had a doctor teach you the science behind biofeedback or even better have one hook you up to the biofeedback system and train you to use your mind to quiet your pain? It is mainstream, covered by insurance and a normal part of any multi disciplinary approach to pain management. It works quite well for me, lowering my blood pressure & raising my skin temperature; both things that can be scientifically verified. The big thing for me, which they can't empirically prove, is that i can use it to lower my pain by half. No drugs, just a good strong woman's mind over matter!

Exercise in a gentle, non weight bearing manner is also an awesome pain reducers. There is nothing better than slowly moving your joints in increasingly larger circles standing in a heated swimming pool. Or straddling a foam noodle and just using your legs like a bicycle to move around the pool. Alternate with the noodle between your legs like a horse and don't move your legs at all. Propel yourself about the pool using just your arms. Move em or Lose em Ladies! I am 19 years, 9 days since becoming disabled and I while I am no where near perfect, I have learned a lot of tricks for dealing with pain and increasing mobility. emoticon emoticon

    I am so sorry...I was there for so many years and then gradually began to put lots of pieces together and have been so much better this summer but the memories are still so clear and the fear of it's return often steals my joy. Praying for you to find the keys to some relief... Vit D, magnesium malate and balancing all my other supplements and water intake over 24 hours are main keys for me and gluten free diet with minimal sugar.

    Well gal...I am right there with you with off the chart pain. I have on a brand new pain patch which usually controls my pain...but today i have had a level of 10 off and on all day. Not good. I wonder if it is the weather change.....

    Oh, Cynthia, so sorry you are in so much pain. emoticon I saw this after your update about the page, so just ignore my "what is wrong?" question. You are in my prayer book. I hope you were able to reach the doctor. emoticon

    Ask for Savella! It's an SSRI specifically marketed for fibro! It's amazing. I was on EVERY narcotic known to man! (Oxy at 80 mg 3x per day....The dose they give CANCER patients! just 10 years ago!!!)
