Don't Have to Be Perfect

Monday, September 23, 2013

You don't have to be perfect to succeed!! That's a lesson that's been very hard for me to learn, especially in regards to eating. But I'm learning.

I used to just give up because I couldn't be perfect. Now I do the best I can, stop the unplanned eating very quickly, and right away get back on plan: drink some water, plan meals, do a workout, just recommit.

Even though I took a few unplanned bites last evening, I'm feeling pretty good. Recently I've had many, many days of sticking to my eating plan. I will again today. And whether I ever get to the point where every bite is a good choice, planned and enjoyed, I am feeling pretty confident that I will never give up again.

I used to be a perfectionist also. You cannot plan every bite or you will be craving something. The best thing I found is to just keep tracking and try to stay within range. You are doing emoticon

To me, stopping after a few bites is in a way even MORE impressive than getting through a day according to plan. From the perspective of a lifetime of all-or-none diet thinking, I find it miraculous that you could emoticon once you started down the tubes and get right back on track.

Once again, you inspire me! emoticon

Glad you are sticking to your plan even with interruptions.
I usually plan my deviations from my plan. My wife and I took a short trip leaving town Saturday and coming back today. I leave all of my eating concerns behind. I will probably gain a little weight, but I'll loose it again over the next couple of weeks. Trying to maintain, not loose more weight.

I LOVE that you could say this: "I am feeling pretty confident that I will never give up again. " Me, too. Isn't it a GREAT feeling?

WE ... ARE ... WORTH IT! emoticon emoticon Hang in and heal up, my human friend!

It's the being able to stop after a few bites....I am a total ice cream addict and I went on a binge last nite, and solved some of it, by sharing with dh...it's gone now.

"The best is the enemy of the good"; Voltaire was right about that. And thank heavens we aren't held to a standard of perfection . . . which is so often (because unsustainable) the enemy of maintenance.

As I commented recently to ONEKIDSMOM, if and when we reach a standard of perfection we'll be even more insufferable than we already are, right??
