Is it all worth the effort??

Saturday, September 21, 2013

At some time I was always going to ask myself this question, I guess!!
Well yesterday and today that time has come!! I seem to be being hit at from all angles!!
Firstly – I got as did all team leaders – an email from Sparkpeople saying – and I quote.....
“As a member of our Community Team or a SparkTeam leader, you are part of an exclusive pre-release group for the Spark. We’d like to thank you for being such a loyal member by offering ....................!!”
No mention that this didn’t apply if you live outside USA and Canada until one had tried to buy it – so one has to assume their gratitude has geographical boundaries no matter how much we have done to help the American people!! (I live in Australia)
This situation has actually been going on for the last nearly 5yrs since I joined Sparkpeoplew – no one outside America can win a prize either – but in this case this offer if for something we need to buy and most people on the web realise that it is the purchasers responsibility if one buys overseas!!
The excuse given by Sparkpeople is to do with lawyers – but that has been the excuse for since I have been a member and I agree lawyers work slowly – but honestly – 5 yrs????
So really what they are saying is – we need international members to boost our numbers so we can tell the advertisers we have a large membership and charge them more, they can lead teams, spread the spark, tell everyone how good the site is – but we really don’t want them here and they are always on the outside unable to take a full part in the site!!
And then – I went to my Skydrive site where all the folders for the Chair Exercise Team are stored – and as one of my team so neatly put it – I had been clobbered by the wonders of technology – ALL the folders had gone!! Totally disappeared.
So I set about putting them back when .................
Smoke!! We live in the bush , its been very dry and our worst fears – bush fire.!!
The firies came and told us to get ready to leave – so we packed the car and waited – as of now we are still at home surrounded by smoke and with fire engines and police everywhere. We slept in clothes last night and are living out of the car – and plastic bags in our own home – ready to get out if it flares. The forecast is for gusty winds today as a front goes through!!

So honestly one begins to wonder – is it worth the effort – as an International I am obviously not wanted on Sparkpeople – and the folders are connected with that anyway!!
The bush fire – I guess that’s part of living in the bush but maybe if I hadn’t been clobbered by the other things this week - I might not feel as worried by it!!

Ann, I hope that your house is spared from the fire. Please know that you are VERY important to all of us here at SparkPeople. I am sorry that SparkPeople does not treat those vital SparkMembers from other countries equally. I am actually shocked to read this. I agree that laying it at the feet of the Lawyers sounds weak. Please hang in there for us. WE NEED YOU. You inspire & motivate people all the time. You are one of the hardest working women that I have ever met. Your Chair Exercise team & Newsmagazine/Newsletter has inspired many. Keep up the good work. Your story is inspirational to say the least. I'm thinking happy thoughts for you & yours. emoticon

I sort of understand your frustration, but I'm not in your
shoes. BUT! I do think that what you DO is for Others
and Yourself, not directly SparkPeople. It does benefit
them but DO THIS FOR YOU AND FOR US!

Love You!
Love Your Staying Power!

It absolutely is worth the effort. Maybe Spark should do more to appreciate us internationals, but the people who make up the teams as individuals would miss you terribly if you departed and appreciate all your hard work. And, although we may not be able to win prizes, we benefit from all the advice and support, freely given. I know I couldn't manage without the nutrition and fitness tracker.
I am praying that you and your husband stay safe from the bush fires.

Ann, DANMAR1 has already said exactly how I feel . You are so special to all of us and the Chair Exercise Team is YOU! It is your chair exercise that keeps me moving.
I am where I am at because of you and tour caring and your friendship! You are one busy lady but you always have time to help us if we have a problem, question, etc.

I pray that you and Rex stay safe. Stay out of harm's way! As far as SP. It is the people on it that inspire us, not SP itself.

Love you, Gail emoticon

Everything has to do with government regulations and boarder laws. Not you personally. Spark is a free site that we must all appreciate. Being Canadian, I can't be in on any of the free stuff or draws and to order anything from the spark store cost more in shipping fees then the article cost it is not Spark's fault it is legal junk.

Sorry you feel you are not needed, your friends care and would miss you if you were not here.

Hope you are safe and sound from the fire.

I hope that you and yours are safe from the fires by this time. Having been through a forest fire near miss many years ago, I know that it takes a lot of effort to recover from the disruption.

As for Spark not letting non-USA members participate in drawings, etc., it is a shame that the powers that be haven't figured out some solution. Maybe they should see if they could hook up with Amazon (which seems to be everywhere...) for special purchase offers.

I would guess that some of the problem with drawings could be the individual country's rules and regulations about games of chance and trying to comply with them all.

There is a movement among some Sparkers to bring pressure on the management to do something about this situation. Hopefully that will get some good results.

You are the living out of the Spark Journey. I am so sorry for the rude way you are being treated. I pray for the sagety of all effected by the fire. Blessings.

Great minds think alike @FIT, the same thought crossed my mind as well regarding the mailing. I don't know if it would be a violation either, but something to give thought to. There has to be a way that all our SP community can partake in what the site has to offer.

Sending prayers to you and your family for your safety. emoticon emoticon

    Be safe Wendy !!
Not only Sparkpeople ;but many others have this same policy & it is very wrong - especially for team leaders who contribute so much to support Sparkpeople & team members !!

I am sorry for what is happening to you, both on Sparks and the fire. My first concern though is yours and hubby's safety.

Please stay safe and I hope you stay with Sparks. You help so many people. emoticon

I am sorry you are being hit on all sides. It's crappy, no beyond crappy that you cannot receive free gifts or win prizes here at spark. But it is worth it, see for every one of you that is out there that cannot it pushes Sparkpeople to make their lawyers work to make it so you can. At least that is what I hope is going on. I have to wonder, what if you had someone in the U.S. receive your free gifts and then just mail them to you? Or is that a violation or something?

I hope that you and your home are safe from the fires.

I sure wish we all could be there to tell you how much you mean to us and how much we appreciate all you do for us. I think there are so many of us out here in SP land that care so much about you that we all would more than fill your house and after we all gave you a big hug you would feel better. (I hope) Please know we love you and care about you! Sorry all this is happening to you :(.
