Take Care

Saturday, September 21, 2013

On a good eating roll, but fell today during my group training run. Busted up my face, knees, and hands. Great people bandaged me and drove me home. I think all the injuries are pretty superficial. Perhaps my lip would stop bleeding if I'd quit eating and drinking!! I did want comfort food, but an 80 calorie Greek yogurt and a cup of tea did it for me.

I'm ticked, though. Wanted to get in my training run. Wanted to cover 3 more dining room chairs, but my hands are definitely too sore. Suppose to cycle with a group tomorrow morning. We'll see. Maybe with gloves if knees will work okay.

Everyone, take care. I'm remembering that one person wrote "slow down" on the list of how to improve your program. Not sure I need to literally slow down, but I do need to be more careful. Like I said, take care.

Oh, Marsha, I am SO SORRY to hear that you're injured! Hands and lips, nasty, nasty, nasty. Glad nothing was broken or sprained. It's a challenge when life sends you a memo that it has other plans for you.

I know that for me it's really, really tough to adjust my goals to a healing track. I once kept running with plantar fasciitis until I collapsed getting out of bed, feet couldn't bear weight anymore. Didn't want to "lose" training benefit. Crazy woman here.

Looking to you, Wise Woman, to show us how this is done. You're an inspiration in so many ways and this is a huge skill. I know that

Be gentle with yourself! Wishing you a speedy and complete healing.

Oh Marsha, I'm so sorry that you were hurt. Trust me, I often do the same thing. If I get too tired and push my limits, then I risk falling. I have to slow down because I don't feel pain like regular people do, until it's too late. Most of the time it is a blessing but if I don't pace myself I end up like you - a hurting puppy. Please take care of yourself!

I've fallen twice this year once on a bike at the end of a bike ride and once at the end of a long slow run. I definitely allowed a week for the scabs to form so they wouldnt be reopened. Definitely take it easy.

My fall on the bike was probably due to trying to turn off my garmin watch before I slowed down. My running fall - I might have been dehydrated - I went to the doctor and had slightly elevated sodium levels. I drink water all the time but it was really hot in houston.

There are gloves for runners which might help your hands. I was almost thinking of putting large bandaids on my knees to help prevent flesh wounds if I go down.

So sorry to hear this. I hope you heal quickly and get back in the game. My DW fell a few times when she first started training with me. Eventually she gave up, realizing she had balance issues. She also got banged up on the 3rd fall.
Take care.

Sorry to hear about your fall, Marsha. I was getting interested into doing a little jogging and I worried that if I fell or pulled something, it was only me and Buddy, so I don't usually do it anymore. Glad you weren't alone, kind of like swimming, always do it with a buddy...

REst up, and hope you feel up to your ride tomorrow, but take care of yourself first...

I'm glad to hear they are probably superficial wounds. Be gentle with yourself today.

You ROCK the temptation of comfort food test!

I think this is the universe telling you to take a wee rest. The chairs will wait for you. And not even impatiently, since they are inanimate objects. Take care of YOU! Much regard to you, Jane
