Broken Molar

Friday, September 20, 2013

I was enjoying a nice small meal, with 10 tortilla chips as a reward for good eating this week.

Then, I thought that I had a piece of a chip stuck between my tooth and gums.

Nope. I broke off the inside edge of the right bottom rear tooth, right down to the gum line. The old filling is holding the rest of the tooth in place.

And, of course, I do not have a regular dentist. Yeah, I know. Shame on me. So, I went online and found an emergency dentist - who cannot see me until 11 am on MONDAY!!

So, the tooth will not be saved.I really do not think it can be saved, given the large filling from . . . 1977 that is holding the tooth together at this point.

So, what to do? Take aspirin until them? Use some duct tape to hold it together until then.

Can I eat ANYTHING at all with a broken tooth?

Clueless. Nonetheless,

ONWARD!!

Yay, he worked you in on Friday! I'm glad you didn't have to wait until Monday. Good news about being able to have a crown, though I know it's expensive.

Ouch, indeed! I've had an impacted tooth almost six years ago~when finally went into the dentist, they couldn't even look at it because couldn't open my mouth! I also resorted to chewing on one side......but this has lead to reseeding gums more on one side then the other. $800 is a pretty penny to pay.

Ugh, just a wicked reminder of my future endeavours with the dentist!

I just got back from the dentist. He put in a sedative patch. There is enough of the tooth left for a cap. I requested a porcelain fused metal cap. Tomorrow morning I will get the Core Buildup Including pins. The cap will be ready in about three weeks.

So, I will have a temporary cap for a few weeks.

Stick to soft and liquid foods or practice chewing on the other side for the interim. The other possibility, and one I haven't tried yet, is http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/de
ntek-toothache-kit/ID=prod35724
7-product. It is a home temporary repair kit. Good luck.

OMG - I just had a broken tooth last night (top left 2nd molar). I bought some stuff from the drugstore - it's a temporary filling kind of like a clay. You stick it in the break (especially if there's pain or sensitivity.

My dentist has this super cool computer assisted design machine that creates the missing piece of tooth from a block of porcelain. He was able to fix it in one appt this morning - it took about 2-1/2 hours total and cost $800.

Good luck with yours.
