Teenagers these days

Friday, September 20, 2013

Some mornings, during the school year, I happen to be out at the same time that one gym class is out and about. I happen to live near the high school and this gym class uses the park for it's morning running (or if there's snow they're skiing or snowshoeing).

I was watching them as I passed them the opposite way today. Some things haven't changed, there are still the ones that are trying hard, but not made for running, there are the ones obviously just there for the credit, and there are always gaggles of girls. This year seems to have a new trend, bright! There was neon everywhere! Neon Pink, neon yellow and neon green on many of the girls.

What I thought was funny was that a few of the girls reminded me of when I went to high school years ago. Some of the hairstyles seemed similar and one of the t-shirts has a similar design to t-shirts we used to wear back in the day (it had different words, but the same font and lettering style). It's just amazing that style comes back about every 20 years. I'm just glad we're past the 70's colors and flared jeans.

When I looked down this morning, I saw my neon today too. I guess everyone wanted to make sure they were seen.

It makes me think back to me teenager days, where I just wanted to fit in, but never really quite did. I'm hoping that those girls make it through with a healthy self-worth like I did and make the world a better place by being kind to one another. I see a lot of potential in young people and hope they see it too.

I can't wait to see how much they've improved by the end of the year! Hopefully they'll all be running the whole way.

Today's Holidays: National Tradesmen Day, POW/MIA Recognition Day, Firefly / Serenity Day and Captain Mal Reynolds Birthday, National Punch Day and National Rum Punch Day.

I wish I had held onto some of the clothes I had back when, they would have been back in style by now. emoticon

A colleague of mine and I often laugh when we see some of the youngsters around - more to the point of "we used to wear that in the day and used to be that slim too! " happy days! I have't given into the neon yet though! emoticon

That's what someone in my pump class said, that the 80s are coming back!

It is amazing. I could have saved some of my high school clothes and worn them again now. And I graduated in 1970! Only problem is that I've never been a saver so no chance of finding any of those memories in my wardrobe today. Oh we'll, such is life.

Fashion is now repeating it self. Everything in the teen stores is either neon, crazy printed, "vintage", cropped, high waisted. I've even seen scrunchies! :)
