Rekindling Your Passion

Thursday, September 19, 2013

Have you felt like a Dilbert cartoon, that you've been darned to heck?

That this Beatles song "Nowhere Man" is your phase of the journey now?

It's easy to get into a rut, as I said in my last blog about acedia, or sloth.

It's getting out of it that's the problem.

Not to settle for mediocrity.

which isn't always where we've been.

It's time to rise above it.

As in the Dilbert cartoon above, our 'heck' is to be condemned to the same thing every day.

What we need is passion,

To be willing to choose to change, remembering who we are.

To see things differently.

Passion is the key!

Enjoy life again!

Try something new, and spice up your life!

Let's get up out of the rut we're in,

As in that story The Phantom Tollbooth, we've been stuck in the doldrums too long!

And I'm glad for Tock, the Watchdog!

So come with me!

and together with Tock, we'll get out of the doldrums, and get the eye of the tiger again!

This song is now our theme!

Thanks for the reminder Marc!! I definitely need to raise the bar on myself.

I especially love the "choose your passion not your pension" quote.

This is an awesome blog--especially the 'mutt in a rut', LOL. I used to teach nursing students and whoa, there were some doozy's coming through at one point. I remember asking a colleague--since when did mediocrity become the new standard? She didn't have an answer and neither do I--yet. Fingers crossed it gets better!

Great blog! I think that is one of the reasons I keep coming back to the BLC--it keeps challenging me to push myself!

About 3 months ago, I added "Eye of the Tiger" to my walking music. Couldn't keep up with the tempo, but I loved it. Good luck with making progress in BLC23.

Time to get out of the rut! If you don't challenge yourself, don't expect anyone else to. This path to health is taking longer than I had hoped and keeping that fire burning can be difficult at times- thank goodness I have my BLC peeps to keep me going and reigniting that fire over and over. emoticon

I'm retired now, but this reminds me of the plaques that were plastered all over our office:

The difference between mediocrity and excellence is attention to detail.

I read those signs every work day for almost 30 years. emoticon

I especially liked the one you posted about setting the bar.
