Good appointment with Doctor

Thursday, September 19, 2013

I had my follow up appointment with my autoimmune doctor. Things seem to be okay. I had many questions for her. One was if a person with autoimmune disorder should get a flu shot. So for any of you out there who have autoimmune, do you get a flu shot? My doctor told me that they do recommend them unless you have Lupus. She also sent me a bunch of information and will read and make a decision. I also asked about Hormone replacement therapy which I was on prior to being diagnosed with autoimmune but stopped thinking they might be causing my problems. My doctor also told me that HRT would be okay. I will think about that as well. Any information appreciated.

Now for FIL...disappointed that he was told by the urologist that he needs to have the catheter for another week. the good news though is that we were told my the head nurse that she can fit him with a bag that goes around his leg so that he can wear pants and possible get out and about. We will check on that today. Still a little confused as to why he needs to be on the catheter so long but something about the bladder repairing itself or something. He did have a bad bladder infection. We will check on him again today to see if he is able to get out and about. We are hoping he is independent again before we leave town on Wednesday.

Looking forward to my facial today.
Have a terrific day!
Sallie

Hi Sallie! With my autoimmune disease, my Dr. insisted I always get a flu shot (and an pneumonia one as well) I have been on HRT since 1999 with no ill effects what so ever. I am a person that tends not to get sick. People all around me get colds, the flu, everything, but I don't seem to get them! In that respect I have had a break!
Its a shame about the catheter having to stay in for your FIL -quite often they are the cause of an infection!!
That facial sounds wonderful! You sure look after yourself, no wonder you look so fabulous!!

Nice that things went OK with the doctor. Personally I don't believe in HRT.

Glad to hear that you were able to work with your doc. I for one do not take the flu shot. Hubby cannot take them and his specialist told me not to take unless I had some other health issues that the flu could effect. So far I have missed them all....flu and any major health issue. You made need to take as you are coming to the states and will encounter weather changes. The flu is the last thing you need while on your trip. Hope you get FIL up and going before you leave

Sorry to hear that the natural product, bio-identical could be the cause of the problems.

P.S. The lab test came back negative for bacterial on my cyst 'infection'. I was wondering with all the herbs I was taking why my immune was down and I got an infection. It turns out that there is no infection. And perhaps, all the herbs I took was a good thing as it prevented me from infection. So the health game can take many twists and turns.

You sure have been through a lot of medical issues, both you and your family! I'm glad we're living in the days that have had such medical research done that we can read and make informed decisions. You have a good head on your shoulders. I'm confident you'll make the best decision for you.

    Enjoy your facial!
As for the flu shot - my DD has RA and was told not to have it, which is just as well as I don't believe in the benefits of it and don't like being injected with alien stuff.

I used no HRT at all. Well, I take that back. I took some Black Cohosh a few times when I was being particularly bitchy.

Better to keep the cath in for a few more days than have to reinsert it. I know how disappointed he must feel!

You must be getting excited about your trip. Are you packed, yet?

Have a blessed day, Sallie!

    Enjoy that facial!

Yes, I have an autoimmune problem (with my thyroid) and I was advised also to get the flu shot. So, going to do exactly that.

HRT . . . personally I did do that for 3 yrs. and just didn't deal with the weight gain (though looking back, some of it was related to the thyroid problem and . . . of course . . . "food in mouth disease." It DID help with night sweats when I was going thru the big "M", but just felt better off of it once I "crossed that bridge." LOL It definitely is an individual choice and I'm sure, with the information you have, you'll make the choice that's best for you. Just DO your research on the med(s) being considered.

HUGS and here's to a thankful Thursday!

Have a great facial - nothing like pampering yourself!!

I get a flu shot every year and haven't had a cold since I started getting them - maybe about ten years ago. I used to get at least two colds a year before that, and I know that the flu shot isn't supposed to have anything to do with colds, but there it is!

I have some strong beliefs about HRT - and birth control pills. I always refused them and have never had a problem with my reproductive system. It all goes along with my "less is more" philosophy when it comes to medication. And really, estrogen and I never did get along!

Your FIL is in my thoughts and prayers.

Have a great day!!
