What am I waiting for?

Thursday, September 19, 2013

An intriguing title, my fingers just typed it without the thoughts stopping in the brain to be acknowledged, after I updated my status about feeling "procrastination" coming on. This pep talk is about getting my rear in gear and getting to the gym.

I have had excuses / reasons this week so far... appointments after work, all three days. At this point I can feel the internal competing forces of my stated commitment to increase my strength training, especially its consistency... and a lazy sense of procrastination.

The weeds and overgrowth in the yard, the clutter around the house... excuses. It is as though somewhere in my warped brain, I do nothing about them so I will have them as that excuse to not go work out. Yeah, I know it's more complex than that... rest needed, sleep needed, finish line mentality... but not having things in order adds "drag" to the motivation. So, perhaps it is time to refresh that "do one thing" initiative I had going a couple of years back, related to the once again overwhelming pile of backed up tasks.

Meantime, in other news: The laptop is back! After four weeks in the hands of the repair folks. The good news about its tech-spa stay... it was all covered under warranty. And now I'm seeing how well fixed it truly is.

There should be no more excuses to procrastinate. Tonight. Gym. On the way home from work. That's the plan. You can't finish if you don't start!

LIFE is good. Spark on, my friends. emoticon emoticon

We all have little tugs of war with ourselves all the time. It's almost like little tests of will, of focus, and of desire! I've had the same ones with my bike & swim training! Luckily, we realize the game and press forward in the right direction!
Stay strong, Barb!

Well you are experiencing the letdown after a huge accomplishment. 2 weeks after my race, I just went back to the gym....perhaps your body needs a rest...listen to it as it is often correct

Hmm. Saw this after skipping the gym this evening with my own set of lame excuses. It bears some thought.

DEFINITELY gardening and pulling weeds/yard work is exercise!

Well, you have a plan, are aware of what to do, and I know you'll do it!

No matter what you call it, 'down time' is necessary. Now that you are recharged, follow through on your plan.

Great pep talk! You are gonna do it this time and keep a streak going!! You have demonstrated determination and resolve over and over. You'll do it now, too!!

I need to follow suit, too, and be more consistent with strength training. I've got to be careful due to discomfort, but it should not stop me from doing core and arms and carefully, carefully, try to address the legs and sore left glute area. Since my injury in April, I've been very inconsistent with ST. Thanks for the nudge. I may just need to break down and seek more medical care than a massage therapist can give me, but just not sure which way to go. Part of this is procrastination. You called it; I'll address it. Thanks.

I KNEW you would get in gear! You, of all that I know are NOT a quitter! You have gone through this before...but you wouldn't be celebrating 4 years maintenance if you were a QUITTER. I have to GET to maintenance...and I watch YOU to know that it can be done along with a few others...

Have a GREAT day, Barb! I'm on your shoulder! emoticon

4 weeks! Wow! I guess I'm lucky to know a Geek Squad kid to check mine out! He usually gets it back in no more than a week.

My problem is I have this amazing talent for turning every reason into an excuse. It's time to pull myself up by my own bootstraps and get 'er done!

I need a longer and stronger pep talk than you do, my friend. You have a wonderful ability to get off your duff even when you feel like procrastinating. Me: not there yet but working on it!

We have 3 extra hours in the week now though...although I usually spent those 3 hours walking on the Wii stepper.

I am fighting myself to get myself to consistently strength train. I love riding my bike but I know I need to do more. It is 8AM now and I have told myself that at this time I will do some strength training. I am really fighting with myself. You have been an inspiration for me, keep up the good work.

You worked your body hard and sometimes it rebels against our good intentions. In this case, your mind knows best! This is where the mental part of this journey comes in. You know once you get started it will turn the motivation and your body will crave the exercise, so JUST DO IT!

Have a great day!
