Shopping!

Wednesday, September 18, 2013

Today I decided to spend some money on me and buy some much needed clothing. I am going to Disney World next week with my friend and her daughter and I need summer clothes. emoticon I really haven't been able to go clothes shopping since I was laid off. I have been able to get a couple of pieces here and there but it isn't much. emoticon

On Wednesdays the local thrift store has the whole store 50% off. emoticon I went early and started to find clothes. I was there for about 2 hours. emoticon I tried on shorts, jeans, tops, and dresses. Some of the stuff fit me perfectly and some other stuff didn't. It was a huge NSV for me because I did not get upset if a particular size did not fit. I can fit in to a size 4 pair of jeans but according to Ann Taylor I better look for an 8. The old me would have been very upset by this. emoticon The new me moved on and found a different pair to try on. emoticon Now I know, I will never be able to wear a size 4 dress because I do not have a size 4 chest. I can wear a size 10 in that department. I am ok with it. None of the dresses I tried on fit. Better luck next time. It was hard finding items in my size. (I know I won't get much sympathy for that one...hehe) emoticon There were tons of 10-12. I wish I had known this when I was that size.

Overall, I had a lot of fun. There was a lot of trial and error since I am looking for clothes that actually fit. I had to relearn how to dress my body. I have learned it is better to get something that fits and flatters rather than to settle for any size. I still have a hard time with this because I still see myself as chubby and tend to buy things that are a little too big. I would buy clothes that were a 2x even though I wasn't that size. I'm still learning...baby steps. For the first time in my life I was able to find and wear designer labels. I know it is a little vain...but it made me happy. I'm also thrilled for the first time since I started going with them to Disney World I will be wearing all women's clothes. Yes, I wore men's shorts and shirts because they were comfy. Now I am finding women's clothes that fit. You know what? They are comfy too.

emoticon on your success with your program and weight loss! emoticon emoticon You had a fab time shopping for clothes in your new small size. I love consignment shopping and it's pretty much the only way I can afford designer labels. And, I've come to enjoy a more than terrific bargain in nearly new. emoticon

Have a wonderful time in Disney World.

And thanks for visiting my blog and offering encouragement. I'm going to give it another try today. emoticon

Hope you enjoy your trip and the new clothes you bought. Glad too that you had fun shopping. Really you can't go much by sizes these days. And why is it that the more expensive garments run smaller? Will look forward to some photos of you enjoying Disney. You will be going at a good time too I think, as I would imagine it won't be too busy now that the kids are back to school. Enjoy, enjoy!

Happy Anniversary too. emoticon

Glad you had a good time. Sounds like you might need to find a seamstress if you want a dress to fit properly but congratulations on "grabbing some finds" at the store. It's also very impressive that you are comfortable with your body - without focusing on the number on the tag!!! Enjoy your trip to Disney!!!!!

I love shopping at the thrift stores!!! My favorite place to shop actually when it comes to clothes. You do have to sometimes do a lot of hunting around, but sometimes the challenge is half the fun. I have a fairly large (for my area) Goodwill store not too far from me, right near where I grocery shop, so it's convenient...

I also love looking at the dishes, you can find all sorts of treasures and of course, some junk too.. And not to even mention books... Our Goodwill store has had ALL of their books at 49 each - of course, they're not sorted at all, so you have to hunt - but I've picked up some really good ones.

You find good buys at the thrift stores and some of them even have the price tags still on them.

As long as you are selective, you can get some great bargains.

Awww, now you have me singing "Thrift Shop".... "I'm gonna pop some tags."

I love that you got the positive message from this that the numbers don't mean much, it's how the clothes fit and flatter you that matters!

Oh, this is so exciting. Love that you got clothes that fit well and that make you feel happy. Designer clothes are sometimes made with higher quality threads and fabrics, so they last longer--which is great. Love thrifting! Have fun at Disney! #whee emoticon

Great work on the clothes shopping. I always figure no one knows the size unless you tell them. I would love to always buy the size 10, in some clothes I'm a 10 in the waist, but a 12 in the hips. oh well I go with the 12. Like you said its trial and error. Its all good. Clothes that fit always look better than clothes that are too small. But always buying women's or jrs sizes are a million times better than wearing men's clothes emoticon Have fun on your trip. emoticon
