Your believing dictates your living!---Joyce Meyer
When I heard this it was an "Ah-ha" moment. I've read all about self-talk and how you have to engage in positive self-talk in order to be successful in any endeavor including this journey to a healthier lifestyle. But when I heard this it was like a light bulb went on and I realized that you can say all the positive things to yourself that you want but until you actually BELIEVE what you are saying to yourself, it isn't going to change anything.
Don't get me wrong. I know that positive affirmations are great when you are struggling with something. But it's the application of those affirmations that is what brings about success. The more you apply them, the more you believe them and when you begin to truly believe that you can succeed at the goals you have set for yourself success begins to happen.
What I am saying is that for me, I have to get my positive self-talk from my head into my heart. I have to know, without a doubt, that I do deserve to dedicate my time, energy and resources into becoming a healthier person. This is something that I think most of us, particularly women, struggle with because we are often raised to ignore our needs and to put the needs of others before our own. I think of the years that I spent driving my kids to all their activities yet never consistently taking the time to engage in my own activities. I made choices that weren't in the best interests of my long term health and happiness and those choices are what have brought me to where I am today. Hey, I loved being able to be a stay-at-home mom but for whatever reason, I never thought I had the right to put my needs ahead of anyone else's.
Now I am at the point where it's time to truly begin to believe that I am worth the time, the energy and the money. I deserve to look good and feel good. I am made for more than just a so-so, mediocre life that has me feeling self-conscious about my self in any way. But this has to be more than head knowledge....it has to be heart knowledge and that is what I am working on achieving.
