One step forward and 3 back

Wednesday, September 18, 2013

Good Morning; I have seen progress with DS, but yesterday he had a VA mental health session with a new psychiatrist who has never seen him. DS was with him 2 hours. He actually had all of his records from Fort Hood. He told DS that he needs to be put on this drug and next appt in 2 months. DS told the dr that this drug gives him suicide thoughts and have been tried b/4. There is a notation in my Army records. There was no negotiation. DS called his Army doctor. He told him not to go on the medication b/c of the side effects that he noted in his medical records. He told Greg to escalate to his boss. DS asked for a note from his Army doctor stating this, he said he could not do it but it is documented in his records. Needless the afternoon was very stressful. A soldier as DS has multiple problems does not want all this hassle. DS knew more about the side effects from these drugs better than the doctor at VA b/c he spend 2 years going through the protocols in the Army. He is so overwhelmed by the system. What we did find out that Korean people metabolize these medications fastest due to some enzyme in their bodies. Did not know this. My Ds is an Korean Adoptee. Hoping for a better day today. Did not over eat over the day. emoticon

glad your DS is up on reading these things, lots of people would just say ok, thinking that the doctors know what is best, which really isn't true often.
hoping for the best for you and yours Nancy, Hugs

Sometimes I think we would all be better off if doctors didn't think they were so smart and would listen once in a while

YES! I learned this, too, with my Korean adoptee DS.

Hugs and prayers for your DS. **SIGH** It's tough to get listened to sometimes.
