At the time of the bleed in my eye back in April my vision in the right eye was 20/70 which is considered low vision. Today the right eye tested at 20/50 and the scan showed significant improvement. The doctor said she wants to continue monthly injections and hopes to see further improvement, perhaps back to my baseline before the first sign of bleed.
I am grateful for modern science. My older sisters did not have the chance for the Avastin injections as they were tested in only the last few years. Incidentally Avastin for wet macular degeneration is an "off label" use of a cancer drug that has been used for colon cancer, and the drug causes tumor blood vessels to lose nutrition and die. The wet macular degeneration is caused by extra blood vessels growing in the eye and bleeding and so the "off label" use of Avastin is almost like an experiment, and so far so good.
