So here I am! I was successful in my first day of my Paleo challenge!!

The challenges I reached this first day weren't very big, but they were present! First was explaining to my family what I'm doing, and why I'm doing it. I invited them to join me, but they didn't seem interested. However, they are willing to support my choices, and to even try some of my Paleo meals with me!

I had a nice variety of food yesterday. Eggs, avocados, tuna, grilled chicken, and loads of veggies. It was really great! And I know that its not technically Paleo, but I did enjoy a nice glass of red wine in the evening. I looked it up on different websites and I know alcohol isn't technically Paleo, so forgive me this one thing. But having a glass of wine with my Mom is important to me, and for me, social things will always come first. I don't want to feel alienated, just healthier, and wine is never something that has made me feel bad.

I also think that my diet yesterday was great fuel for my run today! I think I mentioned this in my other post, but I am currently training for a half marathon. I set a goal when I turned 20 that I would run a marathon by 25. Seeing as I'm 23 now, I figure its time to get started! I thought a half marathon would be a good goal to achieve this year, and I can build up next year. My current program is another Pinterest find (because I am a complete Pinterest ADDICT.) I am in week 4 of training, and today's goal was a 4 mile run, which I CRUSHED! I ran 4.25 miles in 42 minutes. I know its not the speediest, but to run that far even just three months ago would have taken me at least 10 extra minutes. So my time is getting slowly better. It's even beginning to feel like 4 miles is my new standard. I have been a jogger off and on for the past three years (foot injuries sometimes keep me at bay,) and I have gotten used to jogging 2.5 miles, but now 2.5 feels like a breeze! I could go on and on about the reasons I love running :-).

Today is set up to be a good day. I had a nice Paleo breakfast (two eggs, sauteed onions, half an avocado and a cup of black coffee.) I feel focused and driven. If I can get up the courage, I will post before and after pictures. I have had body image issues in the past, but hopefully I can get past those hurdles. Another great thing that happened this morning is that I looked at myself in the mirror, and I actually genuinely liked what I saw. I realized that I might not be super thin, but I looked healthy after my run. I hope I can continue to see that good in myself.

    I'm not paleo, but I've been incorporating some of their ideas. Rather than cutting out non paleo foods, I'm reducing them in favor of more paleo. Eggs, veg, fruit, nuts, meat, avocado.

From what I've seen of paleo, people tend to customize it a bit....your wine may not be strictly speaking paleo, but I don't think the paleo police are going to come and get you! emoticon

Have you found the paleo spark teams yet? There are a few.

    Awesome job on the first day of the Paleo challenge! The foods sound good & have me drooling for those already... Although it may not be paleo, I fully believe a glass of wine is perfectly ok. You must satisfy that what fits for you, & social time with your mom & some wine is it!
