NSV? - "taste buds" again :)

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

I'm trying to keep my mind busy today so here goes another "taste buds" changing since SP.

I really like popcorn as a snack. I used to eat a big bowl of buttered popcorn without any thought what so ever. Than I made popcorn eating a "mindful" eating experience. I made a smaller bowl of those kernels and ate one at a time. I also liked "trio" popcorn (plain, cheese and carmel mixed together). I found a place that bagged this heavenly concoction in single servings, so before our vacation I picked up a few bags just in case I needed a crunchy snack. Went on the trip with 5 bags, came home with 4. Since than ate one more (took 2 days). Somehow this is no longer appealing. Who would have thought this was possible? Not me.....

Over the weekend (because of fall like weather) I decided to bake. Now, I am not a baker. The Pillsbury dough boy and I have been friends for years. I came across a red velvet bundt cake mix and because DH and I really like red velvet cake, I decided to give it a try. Smelled yummy, looked like a picture perfect bundt cake. We both tried a small piece. Neither of us were impressed and probably wouldn't be eating any more. Here's my sweet eating, meat and potato man saying no to more cake. I think my new healthier eating habits are rubbing off on him. LOL. I have never been a picky eater, especially when it came to sweets, but now I can say if it's not exceptional I won't be eating it.

Thanks for stopping by - Hugs to all!

Amazing how we can re-teach ourselves things like that. I still struggle sometimes. I also like the triple popcorn. I must admit it hasn't been too awfully long ago that I ate (overate) some of it. Good for you.

Oh you are pretty darn good. I am not so sure I could pass on the popcorn. I eat mine air popped with no added so if I overdo it I won't kill myself in calories!

    Way to go!

emoticon That has happened with Hershey kisses, M&M's Mt. Dew, even Lindt truffles. I just wish it would happen with Magnum ice cream bars.

Oh, I can almost smell the popcorn! I used to add butter to the already buttered corn. I am doing better. My downfall is mocha javas, hence my username. I can truthfully say I have said "no, let's not get it today". It was a usual stop when we went to the pet store, as there was a little booth in the parking lot where they sold the yummiest mocahs. We do take some days off our carefully planned meals and have a treat, but I am glad that I have been able to ovoid stopping on EVERY cheat day.
I am proud of all of you who are changing your desires for sweets. Hugs, Betty emoticon not sure what this is but looks like it might be a mocha. emoticon

My tastes have changed as well. Some things are just not worth the carbs and calories. I pass on all kinds of things I would have eaten years ago.

    That is awesome Barb!
I have to agree 100% that if I am going to eat it, it better be worth every single calorie that I am going to consume!
It is always such a great thing when you realize that your new lifestyle really is working and you don't crave certain things and they can sit in the cupboard for weeks!
Keep up the great work. You are doing excellent!

Love this NSV, Barb. I hear you....If it's not delicious and to die for, I won't eat it either right now....just not worth it. I'm not perfect, but I am moving in the right direction. Great that you now feel this way about that popcorn and the red velvet cake....good that hubby is also following in your footsteps...Don't you just love those NSV'S....I do too. Have a great day, my friend. ((HUGS))

Kudos!!! Isn't it wonderful the great changes we go through with the Spark experience!! And it sneaks in when we are unaware! That's the best part! You don't even have to tear yourself away from some stuff and agonize about missing it. It's automatic!! Yay!!! Congrats on your healthy changes!! Way to go!! (and your DH, too! how great he got caught in the fall-out!) Hope you are having a super fabulous day!! (((HUGS)))

Good for you. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I need to work on that. The bad thing for me is that I was never one who had a huge sweet tooth. Now, when I need it the least, that tooth has GROWN a LOT. I just don't bring it into the house....much. Just a little once in a while. I'm working on it.

You, on the other hand, are doing such a great job, it's no wonder you're a GOAL GIRL!!!!!!

I can relate ! I challenged myself to stop eating junk food, with the goal of being able to control my junk food habit. I started July 29 and am still at it. In the past couple of weeks I gave myself the OK to eat some junk if I really wanted it. I've had junk food twice in the past week - pizza once and a couple of donuts another time. I really didn't enjoy either. Seems like my junk food tooth has dulled.

A bonus I've noticed is that my taste buds seem more sensitive, flavors jump out at me like they didn't before, making me really enjoy the healthy foods more than ever.

I'm with you ! If something doesn't taste great I'm not eating it either !

Popcorn has always been my snack of choice but I eat it plain - crazy right! I still haven't lost my "taste" for a number of things but, like you, have found that certain things just don't impress me anymore so why eat them. Now, as for coffee ice cream emoticon That's why I only buy it on rare occasions.
