Tuesday's a turtle

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

I just realized today how slow I am really walking, but I'm happy all the same. Less than one month ago I could not walk 10 meters and today I can walk .89 kms, even if it takes me 65 mins I can do it! I have an illness that also affects the muscles with muscle weakness and have not walked for almost 2 years, so this is a big deal to me.

I actually counted the steps I took today on my walk. I wrote down each segment (I take many rest stops) and calculated a total of 1885 steps, then I counted my pass in meters (I take short little passes still) and came up with a total of .89 km in 65 mins or .55 miles per hour........very, very, very slow!
I'm going to stick with this distance for a while and see if I can improve on the time needed. I already see today I have less weakness and tiredness after this walk.

I don't know if I need support, bec I'm happy with what I'm doing. I guess I'm looking for any other ideas or comments on how to proceed.

You are doing great! Just keep going and add another step a day. You can do this! Once your strength increases then you can look at increasing your pace. For now it sounds like you should work on your strength and endurance. Soon you'll be astounding yourself!

I hope you're very proud of yourself - you should be!

You are challenging yourself. THAT'S what's important, and personally, with a health challenge, you're doing excellent! Keep up the good work.

I am a walker too. That's MY time to get centered, focused, calmed.

Sounds like you are doing great. I say I'll walk to .... And pick something quite close might be a lamppost or even a crooked pavement, then I pick something else a little further along. Little goals are good for us. Doesn't it feel wonderful when we notice we are a little bit stronger? Keep plugging away. Turtles always win in the end emoticon

What good news!

Sounds as though you should stick with that level as you say. It's important to know your limits and only to push yourself within safety levels. Speed isn't important. No race or competition here - just being healthy and as fit as we need.

You are doing exactly what you should be doing. Just keep at it. Add one more step each time. Slow and steady does win the race. Turtles rule!
We're all cheering you on!
