Walkin the Weight Away

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

We've had 19 new members to the 12 Weeks Walking team since Saturday! I think JACKSGRAN was really on to something when she came up with the idea that there were lots of Sparkers who just weren't ready for 5K challenges...although we have several of our team members, Sassy and me included, who are either in that challenge now or will be ready to race in a month or so.

Walking has become something I reward myself with. What a turnaround that is. If I want something I shouldn't have, I tell myself if I will walk the planned route to get it, I can have it. I walk down and get my coffee twice a day. I love seeing all kinds of things in my very own neighborhood that I have missed in all these years of grabbing the keys and driving down for coffee, or to the library.

I'm working with my dogs on leash training so maybe one day soon they can accompany me around more than just the block. I enjoy that too. I can hardly wait for the leaves to start to change and fall so I can kick through the leaves on the sidewalks. Today was supposed to be our last 90 degree day of the year...we actually only hit 89 but the weatherman says a big drop is coming and we won't be back in the 80's until next spring. I love the autumn chill and cool temperatures. I am looking forward to bundling up and trudging through the snow...I've been known to plop over and make fat snow angels at the oddest times and places.

I am so thankful for Spark People and all the inspiration I get here. I am so thankful for my growing friendships with so many others. I am especially thankful to Sassy AKA JACKSGRAN for starting this team, inviting me to co-lead and for the special love she gives me from across the pond.

Thanks to all of you who are participating, commenting and even if you're not on the team, reading and commenting on the blogs. I woke up thanking God for dragging me, kicking and screaming, to Spark People!

Good for you!! It's important to like what you're doing and do what you like!
That's all true about seeing things you haven't seen before by getting ut and walking. It's also good for uninterrupted time to think.

Oh, this is exciting. How wonderful to feel like that about your walking. You must dust off your camera. That's my reward for walking - I now see all sorts of things along the way that I either ignored or just didn't see before. We have a wonderful team, and I'm so excited it is growing so quickly. I think you will agree, though, it's a steep learning curve - we might make mistakes, but we'll get there somehow.
