For most of us the New Year begins in January. For me, it's always been September. Today, September 16th is my birthday. And even though I've been back in the classroom for almost a full month, I always think of September as the beginning of the school year. This time because BLC-23 begins so soon, I have even more of a "beginning of the year" feeling.
I will be a BLC Captain and that august position inspires me to write that I want to be a good example to everyone on the team. I want to put in my very best when it comes to the challenges and I want to be as scrupulous about my diet as possible. It's been a stagnant year for me.
Being a Captain is a little daunting. I stepped up to do it because I love the BLC. It was the first "sub-group" on Spark People that I joined and I saw its beauty and effectiveness right away. If you give your determination and all your heart up to the BLC you will become healthier. I personally LOVE the challenges. I love the idea of knowing that each week, for the next 12 weeks, I will have delineated things to do for myself that really promote health, nutrition, exercise and (one hopes) weight loss.
This year: I swear to try my hardest. I don't expect perfection but every day can be a new beginning. This is the first year in FOREVER that I'm not wanting to go out for a caloric meal at a Public Eating House. My husband, who looks like a cross between Harry Truman and Bryan Cranston, is making one of his LEGENDARY Salads. The first time he threw together some greens and strawberries with a bit of pungent onion and some pistachios, I told his that his salad was already LEGENDARY.
I am grateful that my dinner will be a LEGENDARY salad. I am grateful that I don't feel a compulsion to eat something enormous. I am grateful that my dessert will be apple slices. I am grateful that my five beloved cats are with me--although two of them have gone totally blind in the past year. We age together, the cats and me.
It all feels good enough and festive enough for me!
