Operation Headstart - Tales From 100# Down

I will be starting my 10th round of BLC on Sept. 25th. It will run 12 weeks and I hope to lose 10 pounds. While I am writing this blog with that goal in mind know that what I am going to say pertains to ANY of you moving down the road to "Health & Fitness". There is always a temptation to "wait" to begin a new challenge/diet/program etc. I think a small part of it comes from that "last supper" notion. You know what I'm talking about... I'm going to go to Steak 'n Shake and have a double cheeseburger, fries and milkshake because NEXT week I start my diet/challenge/fitness class etc.

It's an old trap and one that many of us find ourselves in time and time again BUT it doesn't have to be that way. I'm going to move into Operation Headstart! Why wait? ANY progress made before the initial weigh-in puts me that much further down that road. Momentum is a GOOD thing and I won't find myself struggling to start THEN if I start NOW.

As I have said before even small changes are better than NO changes so look now and see how you can get moving now. Waiting only increases the odds of GAINING.

Take a good look at your current program of nutrition and fitness. WHERE can you make changes NOW? What can you do to build momentum? Think of three SMALL changes you can make THIS week.

They might include:

1) skipping soda or limiting soda to 8 ounces per day.
2) tracking all food or if that's too hard track one meal per day.
3) drink 8 glasses of water a day or try 1 glass before each meal
4) get 30 minutes of cardio a day - if that's too much shoot for 10
5) Eat 3 servings of fruits and vegetables - or go for one! It still beats chips!

Get the idea? ANY steps forward are STEPS FORWARD.

    I'm determined to get to goal soon. Hopefully this round, but if not, the round or rounds following we'll get there.

    I'm guilty as charged! However,I must say that if I work it into my plan that's okay too! Am I rationalizing? Oh Well! Good luck in this coming round!

    Unfortunately I cave to this mentality every single time.

I'm determined to make changes this round though. Striving to get to my goals. Sticking with them until I get there.

    Right on target as ususal. I like the idea of 3 small changes I can make this week. I can readily identify one. Cut back the "healthy" chips I eat with most lunches. Although they aren't too bad for me they trigger my need for soda! I'm going to fine tune my 3. Thanks for the idea.

    One of the best things about Spark People is the realization that we are not strange, most overweight people do the same things. It made me smile to read your blog. It reminded me of all the eating I did prior to starting a new diet! Nothing to be ashamed of, just realize how silly it is and toss it aside. Great blog, as usual.

  My three small changes this week are to drink more water, legal snacking and to exercise 30 minutes a day (chair exercises). I agree that small changes are better than none. Good luck on your 10th round of BLC on Sept. 25th. emoticon

    I think I have finally gotten past the mentality of getting in that last meal. It never tastes or feels as good as I expected, and there is a letdown afterwards. Eating in a healthy way just feels so much better. My 3 goals this week: 90 minutes exercise daily; remember the healthy snacks I have when it's time to choose a snack; listen to my body and what it wants and needs.

    This is a great blog, Pixie! You tackle a dark-and-twisty thought I bet most of us have had. I know I certainly have had The Condemned Woman's Last Meal mentality.
