I am embarking on a crazy fad diet- one that I would totally roll my eyes or secretly judge if suggested by someone else. But here I am, planning two 500 calorie days per week in order to lose a few pounds, try something new, and maybe even gain supposed benefits associated with fasting...
The backstory- a librarian at work suggested a book called The FastDiet, and while I was motioning hunger she stopped me and explained that "fasting" in this case means you get to eat 500 calories of whatever, whenever. intriguing.
Here's why I think there's a good chance it will work for me- I like the idea of being strict two days a week, but allowing myself some more freedom the other 5 days. Also, I'm getting dangerously good at lying to myself when it comes to what I enter or omit in my nutrition counter. I just want a jump to the system. This might be a terrible thing I ditch after a day, but here is my plan for now.
Week one is already planned: I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow a.m. (ugh!), make a big green smoothie and take an apple to work in case I'm hurting for something, then come home to a gigantic chicken and vegetable salad.
Tuesday and Wednesday will be more typical, with cereal or oatmeal for breakfast, a salad and fruit fro lunch, and I'm planning on pesto pasta (something of a treat) with chicken and a lentil curry with brown rice for dinner each night.
Thursday will be my other "fast" day, and to keep it simple, I'm going to have the same stuff as Monday, but with a little variation of fruit and veg in the smoothie and salad.
Friday will look a lot like Tuesday/Wednesday, and Saturday is a treat- Mike is sending me to a spa for my birthday, and then to dinner at a fancy-schmancy restaurant (where there will be wine and dessert!).
Because blogging helped me so much in my initial quest for weight loss, I'm going to blog about this adventure and let you know how week one went!
Have any of you tried a fast? What about a modified fast like this? Any suggestions (besides "See a head doctor!")?
