Sunday stuff

Sunday, September 15, 2013

Answering some ??'s people pondered over before: Our blackberry season is done as of yesterday too. DD went out and picked some raspberries, but the blacks are done for the year. Our freezer is getting full. We had a great day, starting with getting DD new wiper blades when auto store first opened, then on to grocery store, then dad's house for usual routine. Hauled some more books and my old Farberware pans for sale..

Off to the state park/marsh for a hike.. we were about twenty feet from the mute swans as we walked onto the dock for fishing. They have moved their nest three times this season.. They have three babes and are thriving.. The powers that be started oiling the eggs before they could hatch to kill the babies. Apparently, they have decided that mute swans are usurping the trumpeter swans turf. There is supposed to be a planned kill soon. All over the state.. hundreds of them.. kind of like the mourning dove kill mentality.("Let me see, I created these creatures, so I must have the power to destroy them!" Yup..)

We went into the nature center to the field observatory to watch the birds. They have a glass ceiling and walls, telescope and binoculars, bird books with comfy chairs and you can sit and watch the birds as they land on the feeders place all over around a small pond/waterfall they created. Nice.

Back home, I made a beeline for my spacebags to retrieve my handmade Americana quilt to put on my bed for winter. How did I ever pile so much stuff on top of my cedar chest??? Cleared all of those clothes off, made piles for donation, sewing, etc, DD and I remade bed with quilt,,ah, was that ever snuggly ,cozy warm last night, I woke myself up snoring more than once I was so exhausted from sleeping in an igloo the night before!!

Today is way more cleaning since we spent more time out hiking than scheduled, so I will feel better if I just do it today and get things accomplished for the week.

I did not really eat sensibly yesterday, but did burn more calories than anticipated.. hope it evens out..

It's sad to hear about the swans being thinned out. Although, as much as I love animals, I sure wouldn't mind if there were fewer Canadian geese here. Those little turds are mean as hell!

Sounds like you had a nice time at the park, though. Horray for that!

I can't wait for it to finally get nice and cool here. We keep our apartment at 67 degrees year round, but I love going outside into a nice chill. Hope you enjoyed your snuggly quilt sleep last night!

Sad to see how we've messed with nature, the problems we've made. Sometimes our solutions seem as bad or worse than the problems. Some groups are trying to fix parts of the Limberlost, but a lot of it seems to be under housing developments now.

Sounds like a busy day. There's always so much that needs to be done. Have a great one.
